Full Time Schedule

Mon-Fri (7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.). Occasional evening, weekend and holiday hours will be required to support school events/security coverage, athletic games or open houses. Position Overview Providence Day School is seeking a vigilant, energetic, and community minded School Safety Officer.

The Campus Safety and Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Unlike traditional security roles, A Providence Day Campus Safety and Security Officer will act as a visible, supportive presence on campus, balancing proactive physical security with community-minded engagement.

This role involves patrolling campus grounds, monitoring security systems, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with school safety protocols. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular foot and vehicular patrols of all campus buildings, perimeters, and parking lots.
• Remain alert to potential safety hazards, unauthorized visitors, or unusual behavior on or near campus grounds, reporting issues immediately to the Director/Associate Director.
• Monitor surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and access control points.
• Secure and unlock buildings, gates, and classrooms according to the daily school schedule.
• Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or compromised security barriers.
• Manage traffic flow and pedestrian safety during high-volume morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up windows.
• Provide dedicated security, crowd control, and parking coordination for after-school athletic events, plays, and community functions.
• Provide a reassuring, helpful presence; interact positively with students, parents, and faculty to build trust within the community.
• Utilize a two-way radio to coordinate with the security team
• Happily and safely perform duties outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, rain, cold) while wearing appropriate high-visibility safety gear.
• Additional responsibilities as needed Qualifications & Skills

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is a plus.

Experience

3+ years experience in school safety, security, law enforcement, or a customer-facing role where safety was a priority is highly preferred. Experience working in an educational or youth-centric environment is highly preferred.

Communication Skills

Exceptional de-escalation and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a calm, polite and welcoming demeanor under pressure.

Certifications

Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED (or willingness to obtain immediately).

Physical Stamina

Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift, use hand signals to direct traffic, and lift up to 25 lbs if moving safety cones/barricades.

Clearance

Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check. Salary & Benefits
