Staff Software Engineer - Mobile - Full-time

Position Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer - Mobile at General Motors, you will lead the planning, design, and execution of innovative mobile products across the organization. This is a remote role; however, if you live within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, or Mountain View, you are expected to report to that location three times a week at minimum.

You will serve as a technical leader by mentoring junior engineers, building strong cross-functional relationships, and fostering a collaborative team culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop competency with our core Mobile technologies (client, framework, and services).
• Weigh architectural trade-offs and apply both synchronous and asynchronous design patterns.
• Produce high quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed, and integrated continuously.
• Act as a tech lead by mentoring other engineers on the team.
• Explore and pitch product ideas and technology initiatives with cross-functional teams.
• Initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross-functional, and organization-wide critical programs.
• Leverage your technical leadership to ensure adherence to engineering best practices and enhance productivity.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of experience in Mobile development, native and preferably ReactNative.
• 7+ years of experience contributing to the architecture, documentation, and design of systems.
• Experience with multi-tier production software systems utilizing HTTP APIs (REST or GraphQL) and backend datastores (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch).
• Demonstrated ability to understand the tech stack, debug code, and execute tests.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in Mobile development, native and preferably ReactNative.
• Experience contributing to system architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Proven experience with HTTP APIs (REST or GraphQL) and backend datastores (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch).
• A strong ability to debug across the tech stack.
• Enthusiasm for impacting the engineering culture and driving continuous improvement.

• Compensation: The salary range for this role is $165,000 - $298,800, with the actual base salary offered varying based on relevant factors. Bonus potential is available based on company performance, job level, and individual contributions.
