Site Safety and Health Officer

Role Description The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is a contract position responsible for overseeing day-to-day safety activities at an on-site project location in Nashville, TN. The SSHO monitors worksite conditions, conducts regular safety inspections, and ensures compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and client-specific safety requirements.

This role develops and implements site-specific safety plans, conducts safety orientations and toolbox talks, and documents incidents, near-misses, and corrective actions. The SSHO coordinates with project management and subcontractors to identify hazards, review work plans, and verify that appropriate controls and personal protective equipment are in place.

The position also maintains required safety records, supports incident investigations, and provides ongoing guidance to workers and supervisors to strengthen the safety culture on site.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations, including OSHA standards, hazard recognition, and control methods.
• Experience in construction or industrial site safety oversight, including jobsite inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.
• Ability to develop and implement site-specific safety plans, procedures, and training materials.
• Strong documentation skills, including incident reporting, safety logs, and compliance recordkeeping.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with supervisors, subcontractors, and workers on safety requirements.
• Experience conducting safety orientations, toolbox talks, and other safety training sessions.
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour, CHST, CSP, or equivalent) are strongly preferred.
• Prior experience as a Site Safety and Health Officer or similar role on active construction or industrial projects is beneficial.
• Ability to work on-site in Nashville, TN, adapt to changing field conditions, and maintain a visible presence in the work area.
• High school diploma or GED required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental health, construction management, or a related field is a plus.
