ESP Program Description
Located in Rose City, NE Portland, Every Step Preschool (ESP) is a multicultural and inclusive early learning, care, and education center. ESP provides culturally responsive preschool services that serve all children and families from different backgrounds, cultures, and abilities for the target ages of 2-5 years old.
Our program curriculum is guided by a combination of philosophies of Reggio Emilia and Constructivism. This style of emergent curriculum allows us the flexibility to create our learning plans to reflect the children's interests, backgrounds, and cultures. This is core to our values because children are the center of our focus and we value what they bring to our program.
We make learning fun and meaningful in order to help them build their skills and socially and emotionally prepare them for their school years.
ESP is an approved provider for Preschool for All (PFA). We are building a team where we will work to support each other. We are looking for team members who are passionate and committed to work in this team environment and with young children and families.
For this position, we are looking for a candidate who has experience working in leading a preschool classroom with at least 3 years with at least ORO step 7.5. The lead teacher must have the skills and experience needed to manage a team, and to make sure that the children’s safety and well-being are always prioritized.
This role is responsible for ensuring that our practices meet the state guidelines and that we always stay in compliance. The Lead Teacher is responsible for daily classroom operations, classroom licensing compliance, and creation of the lesson plan.
They are expected to use a team-teaching approach and implement a curriculum that is guided by our program’s philosophies and assessment tools such as ASQ-3 and children’s learning assessment tool as required. The Lead Teacher is considered the Site Director for licensing purposes.
The Lead Teacher is also a leader for the staff in the classroom and is expected to perform supervisory duties such as running breaks, providing feedback to staff, and assigning tasks. The Lead Teacher will work with the Director on professional development opportunities, performance management, and conflict resolution.
Required availability from 7:00 am - 6:00 pm. Range from 40 hours per week.
This is a full-time position for the duration of the school year that reports to the Program Supervisor and Directors.
Salary: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour depending on experience.

● Ensure classroom compliance with state licensing requirements, e.g. student: teacher ratio is maintained, accurate files and records are kept, etc..
● Submit PFA monthly attendance reports.
● Maintain daily attendance records.
● Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that are age-appropriate and culturally responsive using Emergent Curriculum, student observation and interests, and assess the children’s learning and development
● Ensure the safety of children and staff in the classroom
● Support the program supervisor and director with event plans.
● Observe students’ behavior and progress and keep documents in file.
● Complete required developmental (ASQ) and (ASQ:SE) for all children.
● Complete individual child’s learning assessment twice per year.
● Organize parent-teacher conferences three times per year.
● Schedule and attend staffing and Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP).
● Address individual learning needs of students.
● Communicate regularly with parents about their child's progress and support parent understanding of early learning, child development, kindergarten readiness and school expectations.
● Conduct parent - teacher conferences 3 times a year.
● Substitute in other classrooms as needed.
● Provide day-to-day support and coaching to the Assistant Teachers and support with cleaning/preparation duties.
● Implement classroom staff meetings at least once per week (may be shared with Program Supervisor) to discuss lesson plans, get feedback from Teacher Assistants and address any concerns/challenges.
● Ensure all staff are given appropriate breaks in accordance with state law.
● Work with the Program Supervisor and Director on staff conflicts / training needs.
● Attend all ESP staff meetings and training as requested.
● Maintain communication with parents and external program partners
● Assist families with enrollment and orientation.
● Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor and Director.
Qualifications/Experience
● An Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or bachelor's degree and coursework equivalent in a major related to Early Childhood Education (as defined by the Oregon Registry Step 7.5.
● Three (3) years of experience teaching 3-5-year-old children in a certified early childhood education setting; with one (1) year as an employee supervisor preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Must be able to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks prior to new hire processing and beginning actual employment.
