Entry-Level Structural Engineer / Project Engineer

Position Overview

Fortress is a structural engineering firm specializing in the seismic bracing and anchorage of non-structural components in commercial structures and pipe bracing on water and wastewater treatment plants.

Fortress was established in 2013 and is a growing, dynamic firm, with its corporate office based in San Jose, CA. We work with the largest General Contractors, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing contractors, providing them with the designs required to complete their projects.

We have worked on some of the largest commercial and wastewater treatment projects in the western United States, including SoFi Stadium, Intuit Dome, LAX’s multi-billion-dollar renovation, Salt Lake City Airport, SFPUC’s Biodigester Project, Wilshire Grand in Los Angeles, Samsung’s HQ in San Jose, Apple’s AC2 Campus in Cupertino and Amazon’s towers in Seattle, just to name a few.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs calculations for equipment anchorages, seismic bracing and pipe supports.
• Provides takeoffs and quotes for seismic bracing projects.
• Assumes responsibility for key aspects of projects and completes assignments with limited oversight, under the guidance of licensed professionals.
• Performs effectively as a team member during design and/or construction phases.
• Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, coordination with other disciplines and technical issues.
• Performs work in a manner that demonstrates an awareness of and appreciation for the company’s cultural values, including a commitment to quality, innovation, learning and growth.
• Becomes skilled in fostering and maintaining a collaborative professional working relationship with the project team.

Required Qualifications

• Accredited professional degree in Structural or Civil with a structural background. BSCE required, MSCE preferred.
• Experience Required: Zero to 3 years of experience
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite required.
• Experience with structural analytical software such as RISA-3D or Enercalc.
