Keystone Shipping Co. Keystone Shipping Co. is seeking an experienced port engineer to ensure the safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant technical operation of our assigned deep-sea and coastwise vessels in our commercial fleet. This critical shoreside leadership role provides high-level engineering support for ocean-going tankers and other vessels operating in U.S. and international waters.

What You’ll Do In this role, you will deliver expert technical management and shoreside support to maximize vessel performance, reliability, and compliance.

Key responsibilities include

•Provide overall engineering management for assigned deep-sea vessels, with strong focus on safety, quality, and environmental (SQE) policies.

•Ensure vessels maintain full regulatory compliance, certification, and documentation in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard, ABS, and international standards (including ISM, MARPOL, and ballast water management).

•Manage voyage repairs, technical support, and maintenance of technical files, including service reports, machinery history, and regulatory documentation.

•Utilize the Nautical System Enterprise (NSE) Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to monitor requisitions, service requests, machinery history, and ensure timely closure of incidents and non-conformities.

•Regularly attend vessels to maintain thorough knowledge of operational status, hull condition, and all onboard equipment. This is to include an annual ship ride along with a ride to prepare Drydock specifications when appropriate.

•Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets for spare parts, voyage repairs, major repairs, and special expenditures; manage costs effectively within approved budgets.

•Monitor engineering performance through review of operating, performance, and maintenance data; provide recommendations for improvements and modifications to Chief Engineers and senior management.

•Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve non-conformances, near misses, and propose corrective actions.

•Represent Keystone Shipping in industry technical forums as needed.

•Undertake additional assignments as directed by the Fleet Engineer and/or Director of Engineering – Commercial.

•Oversee vendor, shipyard, and class engagements for inspections and certifications.

•Lead incident investigations and ensure effective corrective actions.

•Contribute to audits and vetting programs (TMSA, SIRE 2.0, ISM, ISO).

•Advance continuous improvement initiatives aligned with OCIMF best practices.

Note: The role requires moderate travel, regular vessel visits, and availability for around-the-clock communication, including nights and weekends as operational needs dictate.

What You Bring

We are looking for a results-oriented engineering leader with strong technical expertise in deep-sea vessel operations.

Required Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering from an accredited maritime academy or equivalent engineering education and discipline.

•U.S. Coast Guard Unlimited License as First Assistant Engineer (or higher).

•At least 3 years of experience in vessel operation, maintenance, or repair on ocean-going or commercial vessels. Prior Port Engineer experience or management of drydocking/conversions is a strong plus.

•Tanker experience is preferred.

•Working knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard and ABS rules and regulations.

Preferred Skills & Attributes

•Hands-on experience with deep-sea tankers or other bulk liquid operations.

•Proficiency with planned maintenance software (e.g., ABS NSE or similar CMMS).

•Strong mechanical and technical problem-solving abilities. Including print reading and electrical troubleshooting

•Excellent communication, analytical, administrative, and leadership skills.

•Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with minimal supervision.

Additional Requirements

•Must hold or be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential(TWIC).

•Able to pass a physical examination and physically capable of entering confined spaces and climbing ladders aboard vessels in port or at sea.

•Willingness to remain accessible on an around-the-clock basis and work flexible hours as required.
