Position Summary

Black Dog Advisor is hiring a Client Controller / Accounting Delivery Manager to help lead client accounting delivery across our growing client base.

This person will work directly with the founder, fractional CFOs, bookkeepers, clients, and outside vendors to manage accounting operations, onboard new clients, improve accounting technology workflows, strengthen client reporting, and document repeatable processes inside Monday.com.

The ideal candidate has strong accounting fundamentals, construction accounting experience, public accounting experience, client onboarding experience, and the ability to communicate clearly with business owners and internal team members.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building systems, improving processes, solving accounting problems, using technology to create efficiency, and helping clients gain clarity around their numbers.

This role will start as a key delivery position and has the potential to grow into a leadership role within Black Dog Advisor as the firm scales. This role does NOT include sales responsibilities. Leadership is responsible for driving new business.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position based in the Winter Park, Florida area.

The expectation is to work in office approximately 2 to 3 days per week, with flexibility to work remotely on other days. In-office time will be used for client planning, internal team meetings, training, onboarding, process development, and collaboration with the founder.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting and bookkeeping delivery for multiple client accounts, including reconciliations, month-end close, financial statement review, supporting schedules, and clean books for management reporting or CPA review.
• Lead client onboarding by reviewing accounting systems, workflows, historical financials, reporting needs, access requirements, cleanup items, and process gaps.
• Build and maintain client playbooks in Monday.com, including close checklists, recurring tasks, reporting requirements, SOPs, open issues, system notes, and client-specific workflows.
• Support construction and project-based clients with job costing, WIP schedules, progress billing, retainage, change orders, overbilling/underbilling, and project profitability reporting.
• Use accounting technology to improve accuracy, efficiency, visibility, and client experience across tools such as QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, payroll systems, Fathom, Power BI, Monday.com, and client-specific platforms.
• Identify opportunities to automate recurring tasks, reduce manual work, improve reporting workflows, and standardize BDA’s delivery processes.
• Serve as a day-to-day client contact, helping collect information, communicate accounting issues clearly, participate in client meetings, and keep deliverables moving.
• Coordinate with bookkeepers, fractional CFOs, clients, and outside vendors to ensure work is completed accurately, on time, and aligned with BDA’s standards.
• Support internal BDA accounting, admin, onboarding, technology, and operational projects as the firm continues to grow.

Required Experience

• 5+ years of accounting
• Prior controller, senior accountant, accounting manager, or client accounting services experience
• Construction accounting
• Public accounting
• Client onboarding, implementation, or accounting system transition experience
• Strong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, financial statement review, and supporting schedules
• Worked directly with clients or business owners
• QuickBooks Online
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
• Comfort learning and using modern accounting technology
• Ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities

Preferred Experience

• Job costing, WIP schedules, retainage, progress billing, and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Nonprofit accounting
• Bill.com, payroll systems, Fathom, Power BI, Monday.com, HubSpot, or similar tools
• Accounting system cleanups, technology implementations, or workflow automation
• Managed bookkeepers or junior accounting staff
• Built SOPs, checklists, or accounting workflows
• CPA firm background or client accounting services background

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience.

We are open to a competitive base salary with performance-based upside for the right candidate.

Schedule

Full-time position.

Hybrid schedule with 2 to 3 days per week in office in the Winter park, Florida area.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
