Hill Orthopedic Center is a growing multi-specialty practice providing comprehensive orthopedic, pain management, podiatry, and physical therapy services throughout Central Florida. We are seeking an experienced Medical Billing & Authorization Specialist to help bring our billing operations in-house and support our continued growth.

Position Summary

The Medical Billing & Authorization Specialist will play a key role in managing the revenue cycle process, including medical coding support, insurance verification, prior authorizations, claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and accounts receivable follow-up. The ideal candidate will have experience working in Orthopedics, Pain Management, Podiatry, or Physical Therapy and possess a strong understanding of specialty-specific billing requirements.

Responsibilities Medical Billing & Revenue Cycle Management

• Submit and manage electronic and paper insurance claims.
• Review claims for accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
• Follow up on unpaid, denied, and underpaid claims.
• Research and resolve billing discrepancies and insurance denials.
• Post insurance and patient payments accurately.
• Manage aging accounts receivable and collection efforts.
• Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and reimbursement issues.
• Assist with monthly reporting and revenue cycle performance metrics.

Coding & Documentation Support

• Review provider documentation to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
• Assist physicians and staff with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding questions.
• Identify opportunities to improve coding accuracy and reimbursement.
• Stay current on coding updates and payer policy changes.
• Work closely with providers to ensure complete and compliant documentation.

Prior Authorizations & Insurance Verification

• Obtain prior authorizations for procedures, imaging studies, injections, surgeries, DME, and other services.
• Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
• Maintain authorization records and ensure approvals are received before services are rendered.
• Communicate authorization requirements to providers and clinical staff.

Preferred Experience

• Minimum 3 years of medical billing experience.
• Experience in Orthopedics, Pain Management, Podiatry, Physical Therapy, or other musculoskeletal specialties.
• Knowledge of surgical billing, injections, DME, therapy services, and imaging services.
• Experience billing:
• Medicare
• Commercial insurance plans
• Workers' Compensation
• Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
• Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
• Familiarity with Florida Workers' Compensation and PIP billing regulations is highly preferred.
• Experience with appeals, reconsiderations, and denial management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college coursework preferred.
• CPC, CPB, or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with EMR and practice management software.

Compensation

$23-$25 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Experience Required

• Medical Billing: 3 years (Preferred)
• Orthopedic, Pain Management, Podiatry, or Physical Therapy Billing: 2 years (Preferred)

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
