Our client is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Automation GCP Engineer for a Remote Opportunity.

Role Description

Scope

You are a senior-level infrastructure automation engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). You thrive in highly regulated, enterprise-scale environments where automation must be secure, repeatable, and audit-ready. You are comfortable translating complex platform, network, and security requirements into reusable Terraform modules and pipeline-driven workflows.

You bring strong technical leadership, enabling teams to adopt automated infrastructure patterns while eliminating manual processes. You excel in collaborative, matrixed organizations, working across platform, network, security, database, and application teams to deliver scalable cloud solutions. You operate with a “secure-by-default” mindset and prioritize reliability, governance, and operational excellence.

Development & Enforcement

• Design, develop, and maintain reusable Terraform modules for GCP environments, including networking, IAM, GKE, DNS, and shared services.
• Establish and enforce infrastructure standards, patterns, and guardrails aligned with enterprise and healthcare compliance requirements.
• Implement policy-aware deployments using validation tooling (e.g., OPA, Sentinel, Checkov).
• Ensure infrastructure automation supports versioning, environment promotion, and controlled release processes.

Collaboration & Expertise

• Partner with platform, network, security, DevSecOps, DBA, and application teams to codify infrastructure requirements into standardized modules.
• Participate in deep technical design reviews and provide actionable recommendations, risks, and mitigation strategies.
• Act as a subject matter expert in GCP automation and Terraform practices within the organization.

Analysis & Configuration

• Analyze existing manual infrastructure deployment processes and convert them into automated, repeatable workflows.
• Configure GCP services including VPCs, subnets, IAM roles, service accounts, GKE clusters, load balancers, DNS, certificates, and Cloud SQL.
• Design private connectivity solutions using Private Service Connect (PSC), firewall rules, and DNS dependencies.

Operational Support

• Troubleshoot issues related to Terraform state, pipeline execution, permissions, and service dependencies.
• Support CI/CD-driven infrastructure deployments using GitHub Actions with approval gates and audit trails.
• Maintain infrastructure reliability through validation checks, monitoring, and readiness automation.

Mentorship & Training

• Guide engineers and teams on best practices in Terraform module design and cloud automation.
• Develop documentation, runbooks, and usage guides for infrastructure modules and workflows.
• Enable teams to adopt infrastructure automation through knowledge sharing and hands-on coaching.

Innovation and Research

• Evaluate emerging tools and practices in infrastructure automation, policy enforcement, and platform engineering.
• Drive adoption of advanced validation and governance frameworks to improve platform reliability and compliance.
• Introduce automation improvements that increase efficiency and reduce operational risk.

Strategic Planning

• Support long-term cloud platform modernization initiatives across Health100 and related workstreams.
• Define scalable automation strategies that support multi-environment deployments and application onboarding.
• Align infrastructure automation with enterprise architecture, governance, and regulatory requirements.

Skills & Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud automation, or platform engineering.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, including advanced Terraform development.
• 4+ years of experience with GCP infrastructure automation.
• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Experience automating enterprise environments with strict security, networking, and access controls.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience OR relevant cloud certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, Terraform certifications) are strongly preferred.
• Experience with policy-as-code tools such as Terraform Cloud, Atlantis, OPA, Sentinel, or Checkov.
• Experience with GKE platform onboarding and Kubernetes ecosystem tools (e.g., Istio).
• Familiarity with databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka in cloud environments.
• Experience building automation for environment readiness validation and reporting dashboards.
• Experience converting manual infrastructure requests into automated workflows using Jira and pull requests.
• Background working in regulated healthcare or compliance-driven environments.
