About the Opportunity

A growing organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Operations Manager to lead a high-performing transactional accounting team. This position offers the opportunity to oversee critical accounting functions while driving process improvements, automation initiatives, and operational excellence across the department.

This leadership role manages a team consisting of 2 supervisors and approximately 12 individual contributors and plays a key role in supporting organizational objectives through strong financial operations, internal controls, and cross-functional collaboration.

The position requires an initial onsite training period, followed by a hybrid schedule with a combination of in-office and remote work.

Position Summary

The Accounting Operations Manager is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day oversight of Accounts Payable, Vendor Accounts Receivable, and dispute resolution functions. This individual will lead operational teams, analyze financial performance metrics, implement process improvements, and partner closely with business leaders and technical teams to ensure efficient and compliant financial operations.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a continuous improvement mindset, and deep knowledge of accounting operations and ERP systems. Success in this role requires balancing tactical execution with long-term strategic initiatives while developing team members and enhancing departmental efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors and accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth
• Establish departmental goals, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and ensure effective workload distribution
• Drive process improvement and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and scalability
• Utilize strong accounting operations knowledge to provide guidance and direction across functional teams
• Analyze financial data, aging reports, dispute trends, and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improvement
• Strengthen internal controls and implement risk mitigation strategies to support compliance and accuracy
• Partner with Information Technology teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system-related issues
• Serve as the primary escalation point for complex vendor and financial disputes
• Support implementation of departmental and company-wide initiatives, ensuring successful project execution
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Procurement, Operations, Legal, and other business units to resolve issues and improve processes
• Provide reporting, analysis, and operational insights to senior leadership
• Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining service levels and meeting deadlines
• Champion change management efforts and support modernization of systems and tools
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
• Progressive accounting operations leadership experience
• Experience managing supervisors and larger accounting teams preferred
• Strong understanding of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and transactional accounting processes
• Knowledge of ERP systems such as PeopleSoft or comparable platforms
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Exceptional organizational and project management abilities
• Ability to balance daily operational demands with strategic initiatives
• Proven ability to build relationships and effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
