Courtyard by Marriott Kansas City at Briarcliff is seeking a dependable, customer-focused Part-Time Bistro Cook to join our Food & Beverage team. The Bistro Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking quality food for breakfast and evening Bistro service while maintaining exceptional food safety, cleanliness, and guest service standards.
This position plays a key role in delivering an outstanding dining experience by preparing fresh menu items, maintaining kitchen operations, and ensuring Marriott brand standards are consistently met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, measuring, labeling, dating, and proper storage of food products.
- Prepare and cook menu items according to standardized recipes, quality standards, presentation guidelines, and food preparation checklists.
- Ensure food is prepared accurately and served in a timely manner while maintaining consistency and quality.
- Understand and practice proper food cost control, portion management, and waste reduction without sacrificing quality.
- Set up and break down the kitchen and Bistro food preparation areas before and after each shift.
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen, prep stations, storage areas, refrigerators, freezers, and Bistro service area.
- Follow all Marriott brand standards for food preparation, presentation, and guest service.
- Accommodate guest dietary restrictions and special requests whenever possible.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Monitor food quality and immediately discard products that do not meet company standards.
- Maintain proper food rotation using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) procedures.
- Label and date all food items according to company policy.
- Maintain daily temperature logs for refrigerators, freezers, and food holding equipment.
- Assist with inventory counts, ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotation of food and beverage products.
- Operate and clean kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, grills, stovetops, microwaves, fryers, dishwashers, mixers, and small appliances.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned, sanitized, and maintained according to company standards.
- Assist with breakfast service, evening Bistro operations, catering functions, and special events as business demands require.
- Maintain a clean, stocked, and organized workstation throughout each shift.
- Provide friendly, professional, and courteous service while interacting with hotel guests.
- Maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment and assist fellow associates as needed.
- Follow all hotel emergency procedures and safety protocols.
- Wear required uniforms and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Complete all required Marriott and Capital Management training.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
Special Requirements
- Prompt and regular attendance is essential. The hotel operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
- Department schedules are based on business demands and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
- Part-time associates must maintain a minimum availability of 16 hours per week.
- Maintain professional appearance and grooming standards in accordance with Marriott and hotel policies.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist other departments when business needs require.
- Review and approve electronic timecards each pay period to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Successfully complete all required company and Marriott training.
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant, hotel, or commercial kitchen experience preferred.
- Experience preparing breakfast and short-order menu items preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen safety, and sanitation practices.
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and maintain portion consistency.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the associate is regularly required to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently use hands to prepare food and operate kitchen equipment.
- Reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and twist.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier items with assistance.
- Work safely around hot equipment, steam, sharp utensils, slippery surfaces, and cleaning chemicals.
- Maintain stamina while working during busy meal periods.

Requirements
- Ability to prepare food according to recipes while maintaining quality, consistency, and presentation standards.
- Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures.
- Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, grills, stovetops, microwaves, dishwashers, mixers, and food preparation equipment.
- Must obtain or possess a Kansas City, Missouri Food Handler Permit within 30 days of hire.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
