JOB Summary

CFS Engineers is seeking a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) to support the planning, design, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects across multiple disciplines. This role performs advanced engineering analysis, develops design documents, oversees project tasks, and ensures technical quality and compliance with applicable standards.

The Civil Engineer collaborates closely with project managers, senior leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality solutions for public and private clients. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to manage tasks independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

DUTIES / Responsibilities

• Autonomous Design: Lead and perform engineering design for civil infrastructure projects, including roadway, site development, utilities, stormwater, grading, and transportation‑related improvements.
• Project Delivery: Prepare and review plans, specifications, reports, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.
• Engineering Analysis: Conduct engineering calculations, modeling, and technical analyses to support design decisions.
• Staff Development: Oversee and mentor junior engineers, EITs, and technical staff as needed.
• Leadership Trajectory: Manage tasks with high autonomy, demonstrating the self-starting capability and initiative required to progress to a Project Manager (PM) level within the next 5 years.
• Coordination: Partner with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and internal teams to ensure project alignment and compliance.
• Construction Administration: Conduct site visits, review shop drawings, address RFIs, and handle contractor submittals to ensure design intent is met.
• Project Support: Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, permitting processes, and documentation requirements.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Active Missouri Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 4–10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience.
• General CADD proficiency (experience with civil design software and engineering modeling tools required).
• Experience with Adobe Acrobat or other similar PDF editors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams.
• Proven self-starter capable of taking independent initiative and managing multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.

PREFERRED Skills/Abilities

• Proficiency with Bentley Open Roads Designer (ORD).
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS tools, or other engineering software platforms.
• Experience with hydrology/hydraulics modeling, roadway design, and/or utility design.
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting processes.
• Experience coordinating with public agencies and municipal clients.
• Prior experience mentoring or overseeing junior staff.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 4–10+ years of civil engineering experience, depending on position level, with experience preparing construction documents and technical reports preferred.
• Experience with civil design software and engineering modeling tools preferred.
