The Role

A Pre-Construction Engineer will be responsible for working within the estimation and bidding process while calculating the projected time frame needed to complete a project and additional factors like labor needs, materials, budgets, and potential setbacks. They will use the appropriate computer construction programs necessary to accomplish these tasks.

Their duties include communicating with personnel, contractual professionals, and vendors. Estimators will use computer software to weigh production risks, compile reports, and make presentations to project leaders outlining their suggestions for upcoming projects.

Responsibilities

• Effectively influence, negotiate, and communicate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and co-workers
• Actively contribute to the project schedule and close-out process
• Estimators work closely with many other professionals including consultants, contractors, accountants, and operations personnel to provide the most accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis for their employers
• Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product
• Creating labor estimates for any project· Managing bids from vendors and contractors
• Presenting prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders
• Compiling and recording actual costs
• Using bid data to prepare detailed a cost analysis
• Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors
• Preparing material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service
• Analyzing requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project
• Our projects are nationwide - Travel may be required

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field of study
• 3-5 years of experience in commercial project estimating and/or management
• Design-Build experience is ideal
• Ability to interpret blueprints
• Significant knowledge of construction methods as well as an understanding of municipalities and the permit processes
• Ability to manage subcontractors and vendors
• Estimating and project management experience in the commercial industrial construction industry
• Knowledge and understanding of building construction combined with steel design concepts presented on architectural and engineering drawings
• Ability to understand construction drawings and specifications
• Ability to prepare proposals with minimum supervision
• Candidates must have a strong understanding of conceptual estimating, estimating techniques and cost control
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should be able to clearly articulate bid inclusions, exclusions, and proposal clarifications with owners and subcontractors
• Knowledge of on-screen estimating software, Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, etc.
• Must be able to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
• Procore Certified or knowledge and skill in Procore
