Entry Level Civil Engineer; Renewables

Position Overview

WSP is initiating a search for an Entry Level Civil Engineer (Renewables) to work within the Power & Energy projects as part of our Site Development Civil Team. You will be involved in renewable energy site development projects with an emphasis on Solar, Wind, and BESS facilities, including behind the meter generation for commercial and industrial clients.

Locations: Renewable Energy in Cincinnati, OH; additional consideration for offices in Cleveland, OH, Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX, Austin, TX, and Las Vegas, NV.

Key Responsibilities

• Support renewable energy site development projects including solar, wind, and BESS facilities.
• Collect, compile, and analyze data from work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utilities, maps, hydrologic and geotechnical information for project development, design, and construction.
• Conduct professional civil engineering work with research and inspections to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
• Assist in developing sites and permitting plans for electrical transmission, solar, and onshore wind projects.
• Support the development of civil designs including erosion and sediment control, drainage/stormwater, and utility designs.
• Prepare permit application documents, engineering design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
• Note: This role requires field visits to local sites and may involve a small amount of overnight travel.
• Coordinate with clients and governmental agencies to secure necessary permits and approvals.
• Assist with the development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
• Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.
• Stay current with the latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making in accordance with WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• 1+ years of post-education experience in renewable energy engineering along with prior civil design experience.
• Leadership and communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and both written and verbal communication skills.
• Task management skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
• Working knowledge of site grading, stormwater, and erosion and sedimentation controls.
• Understanding of stormwater permitting (NPDES); multi-state knowledge is a plus.
• Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
• Ability to perform technical computations, understand plans and specifications, and make comparisons with applicable regulations.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with diverse stakeholders.
