Fractional CFO Dental Products Business, Liverpool

Location: Liverpool, hybrid — some on-site days with remote flexibility. Candidates based in Liverpool or across the North West preferred; fully remote considered for the right profile.

Commitment: 1–3 days per week, flexing with the needs of the business

Day rate: £500–£650 per day, depending on experience

Our client is an ambitious, founder-led dental products business based in Liverpool, supplying premium materials and solutions — including crowns, aligners and prosthetics — to dental practices across the UK. Established recently and growing quickly, the business has moved beyond the start-up phase of proving its offer and now needs senior financial leadership to support the next stage of its growth.

The Role

The founders are looking for a fractional CFO to bring structure, discipline and commercial insight to the finance function without the cost of a full-time appointment. Working closely with the Managing Director, you will provide both financial and operational guidance as the business scales. Key responsibilities will include:

• Building and owning the financial model, budgets, cash flow forecasts and management reporting
• Establishing robust financial controls, systems and processes appropriate to a fast-growing SME
• Advising the founders on pricing, margins, working capital and unit economics across the product range
• Supporting commercial decision-making as the business expands its customer base of UK dental practices
• Overseeing statutory compliance, including annual accounts, VAT and Companies House filings, alongside external accountants
• Preparing the business for future funding, banking or investment conversations as growth plans develop
• Acting as a hands-on sounding board to the leadership team on broader operational matters

The Candidate

• Fully qualified accountant (ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA)
• Proven experience as a CFO or Finance Director in an owner-managed or early-stage business, ideally in a fractional or portfolio capacity
• Comfortable being hands-on in a small company environment — from board-level strategy down to the detail of the numbers
• Experience in product, manufacturing, laboratory, healthcare or dental businesses would be a distinct advantage
• Strong commercial instincts and the ability to communicate finance clearly to non-financial founders
• Based within reach of Liverpool for regular on-site days, or able to combine remote working with periodic visits
