Project Procurement Specialist

We are seeking a Project Procurement Specialist to support major capital and operational projects. This role will be assigned directly to project teams and will be responsible for leading procurement activities from early planning through contract execution and closeout.

The successful candidate will bring strong commercial acumen, project procurement experience, and the ability to work closely with project managers, engineering, legal, finance, and suppliers to ensure procurement strategies support project objectives, risk management, schedule, and cost outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Support assigned projects by developing and executing procurement strategies aligned with project scope, schedule, budget, and risk profile.
• Lead sourcing activities for engineered equipment, materials, and services, including RFx development, bid evaluation, commercial negotiations, award recommendations, and contract execution.
• Review and support the development of commercial structures for EPC, equipment supply, construction, and professional services agreements.
• Understand and advise on compensation mechanisms, including lump sum, time and materials and hybrid contract models.
• Identify and manage risks related to contract fragmentation, interface management, scope gaps, change management, schedule exposure, and commercial accountability.
• Work with project teams to ensure scopes of work are clear, complete, and structured to drive competitive pricing and strong supplier performance.
• Support negotiation of key commercial terms, including payment milestones, warranty, liquidated damages, change order process, liability, indemnities, insurance, and performance obligations.
• Manage procurement of major equipment and long-lead items, including supplier qualification, manufacturing lead times, logistics, expediting, inspection, and delivery requirements.
• Collaborate with Legal and project stakeholders to ensure contracts appropriately allocate risk and support project execution.
• Monitor supplier performance, contract compliance, change orders, claims, and closeout activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide clear updates to project leadership on procurement status, commercial risks, sourcing outcomes, and key decisions required.

Qualifications and Experience

• 15+ years of experience in project procurement.
• Strong understanding of EPC, equipment supply, and services contracts.
• Demonstrated ability to assess commercial models and recommend appropriate contracting strategies.
• Experience with supplier negotiations, contract development, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
• Ability to identify commercial, schedule, scope, and interface risks in complex project environments.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to work effectively with project, engineering, legal, finance, and operational teams.
• Experience with SAP, Ariba, or similar procurement systems would be considered an asset.
