Role Description The Drafting Lead – Survey is a full-time, remote position based in Calgary, AB. This role is responsible for leading the preparation and review of survey plans, drawings, and related documentation from field data, ensuring accuracy, compliance with standards, and consistency across projects.
Day-to-day tasks include coordinating with field crews to interpret survey data, organizing and managing drafting workflows, and overseeing the quality control of deliverables before submission to clients and regulatory bodies.
The Drafting Lead provides guidance and mentorship to drafting staff, supports project managers with timelines and priorities, and helps maintain drafting templates, standards, and digital file systems. The role also involves collaborating with other technical team members to resolve discrepancies, implement best practices, and support continuous improvement in drafting processes.
Demonstrated proficiency with survey drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar) and strong skills in producing accurate, clear survey plans.
Solid understanding of construction enginneering and architectural drawing packages with the ability to interpret for field file creation, as-builts, volumes, underground utilities, adn all other survey related functions
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain detailed documentation.
Effective communication and collaboration abilities for working with field crews, project managers, and clients to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance, including checking calculations, labels, and boundaries for accuracy and consistency.
Relevant technical education or experiemce in geomatics, surveying, drafting, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience in land surveying or geomatics in Western Canada, particularly within urban and infrastructure environments, is an asset.
Ability to contribute to a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace.
