Role Overview
The City of Ottawa is looking for a dedicated Project Manager, Interior Space Planning, to join its Facility Operations Services within the Recreation, Culture and Facilities Directorate.
This pivotal role is responsible for delivering comprehensive space planning and interior design services, participating in cross-departmental teams, and overseeing the design, construction, restoration, and renovation of municipal buildings across Ottawa.
As a key contributor to City of Ottawa careers, you will manage multiple concurrent projets, ensuring successful execution from initial concept through to final warranty. This position is crucial for maintaining and enhancing the City's infrastructure, supporting various operational demandes, and contributing to the overall quality of public facilities.
Responsibilities
As the Project Manager, Interior Space Planning, you will be entrusted with a broad range of duties essential to the successful delivery of complex projets. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing all stages of concurrent projets related to space planning and facility management, from project launch through to warranty.
- Overseeing the development of calls for tenders, selection of experts-conseils, preliminary and detailed design, technical specifications, tendering, award, construction, remediation, testing, commissioning, and client handover.
- Handling all phases of multiple project executions, including consultant selection (where applicable), public consultations, environmental assessments, and contract awards.
- Providing oversight, monitoring, and reporting on project progress, approving all project expenditures, and coordinating project-related testing, commissioning, and transfer aux operational directorates.
- Reviewing, approving, and supervising les projets, and contributing to the review and development des space planning and facility management standards.
- Performing other assigned duties as required to support the City's objectives and operational demandes.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional with a strong background dans interior space planning and project management. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Education and Experience
- An undergraduate degree from a four-year program in Architectural Studies, Interior Architecture, Applied Arts (Interior Design), or a related field.
- At least five (5) years of professional experience dans space planning, design, and construction of facility-related projets, including three (3) years of project management experience.
Knowledge
- Principles of interior decoration, les methods and practices for space and facility planning, design, construction, and remediation.
- The City's regulatory code, including periodic amendments.
- Federal and provincial regulations, standards, codes, and bylaws concerning les bâtiments, fire safety, accessibility, health and safety, construction, and the environment.
- Relevant City standards and guidelines for staff workspaces.
- Project management principles, including work breakdown structures, cost control and reporting concepts, and processes for developing des demandes for bids, qualifications, and proposals.
- General knowledge des recognized construction materials, methods, processes, and practices across a wide range of building construction disciplines.
- Provisions des Environmental Assessment Act regarding the recycling and disposal des construction materials.
- Remediation techniques and procedures, including asbestos removal.

- Protocols concerning how senior management and councillors respond aux demandes for information, conduct public consultations, and prepare reports, briefings, and other communications.
- Familiarity with project management software, database management, spreadsheets, word processing, email, intranet, and internet applications, along with une good knowledge of the SAP system.
- Practical experience with AutoCAD tools such as layers, 3D presentation drawings, space configuration and construction plans for updating and preparing proposed layout drawings, and reviewing drawings according to code and standard drawings.
- Knowledge des relevant health and safety legislation, potential or actual workplace health and safety hazards, and les measures to ensure staff health and safety in accordance with laws, City policies, and procedures, which includes worker rights and obligations.
