Our client, a leader in the Construction sector, is actively seeking a vigilant and experienced Construction Safety Officer to join their team based in Ottawa, Ontario . This role is critical to ensuring a safe working environment across all project sites. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive safety programs and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
The ideal candidate is proactive, knowledgeable about current safety legislation, and possesses excellent communication and training skills. You will conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and provide guidance to site personnel to maintain the highest safety standards.
This is an essential, on-site position that requires a strong commitment to occupational health and safety within the bustling construction landscape of Ottawa .
Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and manage site-specific safety plans and programs. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulations. Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to construction personnel and subcontractors. Ensure all employees and subcontractors are aware of and adhere to safety policies and procedures. Maintain accurate safety records, including training logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation. Liaise with government safety agencies and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation.
Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization and on project sites. Advise project managers and site supervisors on safety best practices and risk mitigation. Respond immediately to any safety concerns or emergencies on site. Requirements Completion of a recognized Occupational Health and Safety program or equivalent experience.
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry. Knowledge of federal and provincial (Ontario) occupational health and safety legislation and regulations. Certification such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent is highly desirable. Experience conducting hazard assessments and implementing control measures.
Strong understanding of construction site operations and potential hazards. Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound decisions in emergency situations. Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites in and around Ottawa, Ontario . Benefits
