Junior Laboratory Technician (R&D, high-pressure systems)

• 3-month, part-time contractual position with potential for extension
• Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (on-site)
• Compensation: $22.50+/hr, depending on skills and experience

About the Role

SCFCan Inc. is an Edmonton-based startup focused on supercritical fluid processes for the recovery of valuable compounds from natural and industrial feedstocks. We operate a small-scale R&D laboratory using high-pressure systems to explore and optimize these processes.

We are hiring a Junior Laboratory Technician to support our team. This position is designed for individuals early in their technical career who are interested in gaining hands-on experience with specialized laboratory and high-pressure equipment in a supervised environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the operation of bench-scale high-pressure equipment for supercritical fluid processes
• Assist with troubleshooting equipment and process issues
• Assist with maintenance, adjustments, and minor modifications of lab equipment
• Perform end-of-run cleanup, waste handling, and lab organization
• Prepare and analyze experimental samples
• Maintain clear and accurate experimental records and documentation
• Update and maintain standard operating procedures and safety documentation

Education and Experience

• Background in laboratory work through education, research, and/or employment
• No prior experience with high-pressure process equipment is required but would be an advantage
• Completion of a laboratory technician/technologist or related program is considered an asset

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment and experimental processes
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures
• Commitment to safe laboratory practices
• Ability to learn quickly and apply training
• Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate experimental records and ensure a clean, organized workspace
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing software for documentation and reporting
