Working Hours : Monday - Friday (6.00AM - 3.00PM)
Employment Type: 12 month contract with PERSOL
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (60/40)
Salary range
RM5,000 - RM7,100 (based on experience & qualification)
About the Role
As a Payroll Specialist, you'll play a critical role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for New Zealand employees. Working within a global HR Shared Services organization, you'll partner with HR teams, leaders, and employees to deliver exceptional payroll services while maintaining compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
This role is ideal for payroll professionals who thrive in a detail-oriented environment and enjoy working with complex payroll processes, legislation, and stakeholder management.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Administration
- Process end-to-end payroll activities for weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll cycles
- Ensure accurate salary payments, payroll calculations, and bank file processing
- Publish payslips accurately and within agreed payroll timelines
- Provide payroll advice and support on: KiwiSaver, Superannuation, Allowances, Pay discrepancies & Payroll-related deductions
- Prepare and issue payroll-related reports and payment summaries
Compliance, Controls & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with New Zealand payroll legislation, taxation, and statutory requirements
- Manage IRD submissions, third-party deductions, and payroll reporting obligations
- Perform payroll reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger postings
- Investigate payroll discrepancies and resolve reconciliation issues promptly
- Support internal and external audits through accurate payroll documentation and reporting
- Maintain payroll controls, governance, and process compliance
Process Improvement & Stakeholder Support
- Respond to employee and manager payroll enquiries within agreed service levels
- Participate in payroll system enhancements and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Identify payroll risks, compliance gaps, and process improvement opportunities
- Develop and maintain payroll procedures, SOPs, and work instructions
- Partner with HR, Finance, and business stakeholders to continuously improve payroll operations
What We're Looking For?
- Degree or Professional Qualification in: Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Payroll Administration Or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years of payroll experience, preferably handling: New Zealand Payroll Processing, Employment Legislation, Payroll Administration, Statutory Compliance & HR Processes
- Exposure to Australian Payroll will be highly advantageous.
- Experience supporting: KiwiSaver, Superannuation, IRD compliance & Payroll statutory reporting
Technical Skills
- Strong end-to-end payroll processing experience
- SAP Payroll system experience (mandatory)
- Time & Attendance system experience
- Payroll reconciliations and General Ledger knowledge
- Understanding of Enterprise Agreements and Award interpretations
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
- Strong digital and system agility
- Knowledge of payroll audits, governance, and compliance requirements

Additional Information
- The role supports the New Zealand Retail Payroll Team
- Candidates with experience in New Zealand local delivery, statutory compliance, and payroll legislation are strongly encouraged to apply
- Open to candidates from various industries — Oil & Gas experience is not required
- Candidates may occasionally be required to work on Malaysia Public Holidays when New Zealand payroll processing activities are scheduled
- Public holiday work will be compensated with replacement leave (subject to manager approval)
