Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Business Development
- Develop and execute the company's growth strategy in Malaysia in alignment with overall corporate objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue new trading, investment, and business development opportunities across the commodities value chain.
- Drive market expansion initiatives, including sourcing, sales, logistics development, strategic partnerships, and market entry initiatives.
- Assess potential investment opportunities, including mining assets, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and greenfield projects.
- Lead commercial negotiations and oversee the execution of key commercial agreements, including offtake agreements, joint venture arrangements, supply contracts, and strategic partnerships.
- Government & External Stakeholder Management
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, regulators, industry associations, financial institutions, and key market participants.
- Monitor regulatory developments and industry trends to identify opportunities and mitigate potential risks.
- Manage matters related to licensing, permits, compliance approvals, and regulatory requirements.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder engagements to promote the company's interests and reputation.
- Commercial & Market Development
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, customers, logistics providers, and strategic partners.
- Leverage market intelligence to identify competitive advantages and commercial opportunities.
- Support the origination and execution of commodity trading transactions across regional markets.
- Provide market insights and strategic recommendations to senior management regarding industry developments, market conditions, and investment opportunities.
- Operations, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure business activities comply with applicable local laws, regulations, and corporate governance standards.
- Implement and maintain robust risk management practices covering operational, commercial, regulatory, political, and stakeholder risks.
- Monitor changes in the political, economic, and regulatory landscape and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Support the implementation of headquarters' compliance and risk management policies within local operations.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing local team.
- Foster strong collaboration between local operations and regional headquarters.
- Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, safety, and operational excellence.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives and facilitate effective communication across geographically diverse teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Law, Supply Chain, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commodities trading, business development, commercial management, or related fields.
- Strong exposure to metals and mining commodities, including products such as nickel, copper, aluminium, tin, or other industrial metals.
- Understanding of the commodities value chain, including mining, processing, logistics, marketing, and trading activities.
- Experience operating within Malaysia or broader Southeast Asian markets is highly preferred.
- Experience working on complex commercial transactions, strategic partnerships, or investment projects.
- Prior experience engaging with government agencies, regulators, or key industry stakeholders would be advantageous.
- Experience working with multinational organizations or large-scale industrial and resource companies is preferred.
