Scrum Master - Gauteng

Introduction

Purpose

A fintech company is seeking a Scrum Master who will a core member of the Product & Delivery team at the company, responsible for driving delivery excellence across 2–3 concurrent projects and programmes. This is not a ceremonial process role.

In a lean, high-velocity fintech environment, the Scrum Master operates as the operational engine of the delivery team — facilitating agile practices, protecting team flow, coordinating across workstreams, and acting as the first line of escalation before issues reach the Head of Product & Delivery.

The company operates on the principle that every role reaches beyond its core mandate. Specialists are expected to wear multiple hats, contribute across adjacent domains, and grow into expanded responsibility over time. This role is designed with that philosophy embedded — structured hats are phased in progressively as the individual builds context, trust, and capability

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Job Outputs

• Facilitate all sprint ceremonies across 2–3 concurrent programmes, including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews and retrospectives
• Ensure ceremonies are purposeful, timeboxed and outcome-driven
• Adapt facilitation style to team maturity and programme context
• Identify, log and actively resolve team-level blockers
• Distinguish between blockers that can be resolved independently and those requiring escalation
• Escalate issues with context and recommended resolutions where required
• Monitor team dynamics, morale and delivery rhythm
• Coach team members on agile values and practices
• Drive continuous improvement through retrospective outcomes and ensure agreed actions are implemented
• Maintain sprint boards and delivery metrics
• Track velocity, capacity and sprint forecast accuracy
• Identify and surface scope creep, under-commitment and overcommitment
• Own and enforce the Definition of Ready for all sprint stories
• Uphold the Definition of Done as a quality gate during sprint reviews
• Collaborate with the Business Analyst and Tester to evolve the Definition of Ready and Definition of Done
• Maintain sprint dashboards and delivery coordination activities
• Track dependencies, release readiness and cross-team scheduling
• Support backlog hygiene and refinement activities with the Business Analyst
• Facilitate stakeholder working sessions and ensure actions are tracked through to completion
• Act as the first line of escalation for delivery-related issues
• Coordinate delivery activities across multiple workstreams and programmes
• Collaborate closely with the Business Analyst and Tester to ensure requirements, delivery flow and quality objectives are achieved

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

• Scrum Master Certification advantageous but not required

Experience

• Minimum 3 years' experience as a Scrum Master or in an equivalent agile delivery role
• Must be residing in Gauteng
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams or programmes
• Experience within a product-led or technology-enabled environment
• Proven track record of facilitating agile ceremonies and driving team delivery outcomes
• Experience working within lean, cross-functional teams
• Exposure to fintech, financial services or highly regulated environments advantageous
• Familiarity with CRM or platform-led transformation programmes advantageous
• Experience working alongside or in a Business Analyst or delivery coordination capacity advantageous
