Senior Group Accountant

Introduction

Are you a commercially minded finance professional with strong property sector experience and a deep understanding of South African VAT legislation? We are looking for a Senior Group Accountant / Financial Manager to take ownership of financial reporting, tax compliance, and asset-level financial performance across a diverse property portfolio.

Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control

• Prepare and review monthly management accounts for multiple property entities (SPVs).
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
• Ensure robust financial controls, governance, and reporting standards.

Property Finance Oversight

• Monitor rental income, recoveries, and operational expenditure.
• Ensure accurate tenant billing and recoveries, including utilities, rates, and levies.
• Review lease agreements from a financial and VAT perspective.
• Partner with asset management teams to provide financial modelling and performance analysis.

VAT Compliance

• Oversee the preparation and review of VAT201 returns.
• Ensure full compliance with SARS requirements and VAT legislation.
• Manage VAT audits, reviews, and SARS queries.

Audit & Compliance

• Lead annual audit processes and the preparation of audit packs.
• Liaise with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable tax legislation.
• Maintain and strengthen internal control frameworks.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Drive optimisation of property finance systems such as SAGE, MDA, and MRI.
• Improve reporting accuracy, automation, and data integrity.
• Enhance processes related to billing, recoveries, and VAT tracking.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• BCom Accounting or Finance (essential)
• Completed Articles
• CA(SA), CIMA, or SAIPA qualification advantageous but not essential
• 5–8+ years' experience in: Property finance and VAT compliance
• Strong knowledge of South African VAT legislation, specifically within the property sector
• Experience managing multiple entities (SPVs)
