Human Resources Officer
A well-established company in the waste management and environmental services industry is seeking an experienced Human Resources Officer to join their team based in Denver, Johannesburg.
This is a hands-on operational HR role suited to a candidate who is passionate about people, highly organised, and experienced in supporting a fast-paced, multi-site workforce. The successful candidate will work closely with the HR Manager and play a key role in ensuring HR best practices, compliance, and operational excellence across the business.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day HR administration and employee records.
- Review and verify monthly payroll inputs and assist with payroll administration.
- Coordinate recruitment activities, including interviews, onboarding, and induction.
- Provide Employee Relations and Industrial Relations support to managers and employees.
- Conduct investigations, draft disciplinary documentation, coordinate hearings, and assist with grievance processes.
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation and internal HR policies.
- Maintain accurate HRIS records and personnel files.
- Assist with HR audits, reporting, Employment Equity, and HR compliance initiatives.
- Coordinate leave administration, attendance records, overtime, and employee documentation.
- Support line managers across multiple operational sites with day-to-day HR matters.
- Assist with IOD/COIDA administration and other HR projects as required.
What we're looking for
- Grade 12 with a tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Human Resources Officer or HR Generalist role.
- Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation, including the BCEA, LRA, Employment Equity Act, Skills Development Act, and POPIA.
- Proven experience in Employee Relations and Industrial Relations, including disciplinary hearings, grievances, investigations, and HR compliance.
- Experience with payroll administration and HRIS systems.
- Strong HR administration and reporting experience.
- Previous experience working in a multi-site operational or blue-collar environment will be advantageous.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
- High levels of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Valid driver's licence.
