Hero Serv (Pty) is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of Procurement to lead the procurement function and drive strategic sourcing, supplier performance, cost optimisation, governance, and operational excellence across the organisation.

This is a senior leadership opportunity reporting directly to the CEO and offers the chance to shape and execute procurement strategy while leading a high-performing team.

Purpose of the Role

• Lead the procurement function across the organisation.
• Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned to business objectives.
• Ensure the cost-effective acquisition of goods and services while maintaining strong supplier relationships.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, regulations, and governance standards.
• Drive efficiencies within procurement processes and contribute to the organisation's overall financial performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive procurement strategy that supports the company's goals.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

Supplier and Contract Management

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate contracts to secure favorable terms.
• Monitor supplier performance, addressing any issues as they arise to ensure service quality.

Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop the procurement team, providing them with guidance, training, and support to achieve departmental goals.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and feedback sessions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., finance, operations, product development) to align procurement activities and strategies with their needs.
• Work with stakeholders to establish procurement requirements and specifications.

Budget Management

• Prepare and manage the procurement budget, ensuring all expenditure aligns with financial targets.
• Analyse procurement data to support budgeting and forecasting activities.

Compliance and Risk Management

• Ensure adherence to procurement policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance.
• Identify risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies.

Sustainability and Diversity

• Promote sustainable procurement practices and seek opportunities for diversity and inclusion within the supplier base.
• Implement guidelines that support corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Job Requirements

• Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Logistics, or a related field.
• Minimum 5-8 years' relevant procurement experience.
• Proven experience managing and leading procurement teams.
• Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
• Strong analytical capabilities, with proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders.
• Proficiency in procurement software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strategic thinker with strong problem solving abilities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Cost Savings: Measure the percentage reduction in procurement costs year-over-year.
• Supplier Performance: Track supplier performance metrics such as on-time delivery rates, quality ratings, and responsiveness.
• Procurement Cycle Time: Evaluate the average time taken to complete procurement processes from requisition to purchase order.
• Compliance Rate: Monitor adherence to procurement policies and regulations to ensure compliance measures are met.
• Team Engagement: Assess employee satisfaction and engagement within the procurement team, measured through surveys and feedback.
• Sustainability Goals: Track progress in implementing sustainable procurement practices and achieving diversity targets within the supplier base.
