MIS Cyber Analyst

Astral is seeking a structured, analytical, and results-oriented MIS Cyber Analyst to protect the organisation’s information systems by identifying, analysing, and mitigating security threats, while ensuring compliance with security policies and maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data.

Reporting to the MIS Infrastructure Manager and supporting the Commercial and Agriculture business units, the successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring security systems, responding to incidents, strengthening controls and supporting cybersecurity resilience across the organisation.

The Opportunity

As a member of the MIS team, the successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure that security threats are effectively detected, investigated, and addressed, while supporting compliance, documentation, and awareness initiatives across the business.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Diploma or Degree in Information Systems or a related field.
• Relevant IT or Cyber Security qualification; certifications such as Security+, CEH or CISSP will be advantageous.

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in an IT security or infrastructure environment.
• Experience with security tools such as SIEM, EDR, firewalls and vulnerability scanners.
• Experience with incident response and threat analysis.
• Knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory and endpoint security.

Technical Skills

• Understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
• Working knowledge of SIEM platforms such as Splunk or Sentinel.
• Familiarity with endpoint protection and EDR solutions such as Trend Micro
• Understanding of vulnerability management tools, backup processes, and disaster recovery practices, with basic scripting knowledge such as PowerShell being advantageous.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Security Monitoring and Incident Response

• Monitor security systems, alerts and logs to detect potential threats and vulnerabilities.
• Investigate and respond to security incidents, including root cause analysis and remediation.
• Ensure timely escalation and communication of security incidents.
• Provide after-hours support when required for security incidents.

Risk, Compliance and Controls

• Perform vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation actions.
• Ensure compliance with internal security policies and industry standards.
• Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments.
• Assist with the implementation of security controls such as MFA, encryption, and access controls.

Infrastructure and Endpoint Security

• Manage and maintain endpoint protection, antivirus, and EDR solutions.
• Review firewall, network and system configurations to ensure security best practices.
• Monitor and manage patching compliance for servers and endpoints.
• Participate in Disaster Recovery and Incident Response planning and testing.

Documentation, Awareness and Support

• Provide security awareness guidance to users and assist with training initiatives.
• Work with external vendors on security-related incidents and solutions.
• Maintain documentation of incidents, procedures and security configurations.
• Perform other reasonable duties outside the scope of this job description as requested by management
