Introduction
Comtel Communications is an established Internet Service Provider (ISP) committed to delivering reliable, high-performance connectivity solutions to residential and business customers across South Africa.
We are seeking an experienced Tier 2 / Senior Network Engineer to join our Technical Operations team. This role is ideal for a highly motivated networking professional with strong ISP experience who enjoys troubleshooting complex network issues, deploying infrastructure, improving network performance, and contributing to the continual growth of our carrier-grade network.
You will work with Mikrotik devices, GPON, routing, switching, wireless backhaul, fibre infrastructure, and carrier-grade networking technologies while supporting business-critical services and mentoring junior technical staff.
Network Operations
Maintain and support carrier-grade ISP infrastructure
Configure and troubleshoot core routers and aggregation switches
Manage GPON OLTs and customer provisioning
Maintain wireless backhaul infrastructure
Support POP deployments and fibre expansion projects
Routing & Switching
Configure and maintain:BGP,OSPF,VLANs,QoS,PPPoE,DHCPnIPv4, IPv6,ACLs,VRRP,CGNAT,RADIUS,Customer Provisioning,PPPoE provisioning,Static IP allocation,VLAN assignments, GPON service provisioning, ONU/ONT configuration, Authentication troubleshooting, Monitoring & Troubleshooting,Monitor network performance using:,LibreNMS,The DudeZabbix,Grafana
NetBox,Syslog.
Perform advanced fault diagnosis and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
Respond to major network incidents and participate in the after-hours standby roster
Infrastructure Deployment
Commission OLTs
Install and configure POP infrastructure
Rack and cabinet deployments
Fibre infrastructure expansion
Wireless link commissioning
Network upgrades and migrations
Documentation
Maintain network diagrams
Update IP addressing plans
Document standard operating procedures
Maintain configuration backups
Produce technical reports
Continuous Improvement
Recommend network improvements
Assist with capacity planning
Improve network resilience
Mentor junior technical staff
Participate in change management processes
