Senior BI Developer (QlikSense & Power BI)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and resilient Senior BI Developer to join our dynamic team in Cape Town. This is a high-stakes, high-stress environment where data drives critical operational decisions. The ideal candidate is a "hybrid" developer who is equally proficient in QlikSense and Power BI. You will be required to hit the ground running—there will be no ramp-up period.

You will be expected to take ownership of existing dashboards, troubleshoot live data issues, and deliver new analytical solutions immediately.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Development & Maintenance: Design, develop, and maintain complex interactive dashboards and reports using QlikSense and Power BI.
• Data Integration: Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from multiple sources (SQL databases, APIs, flat files) into the BI platforms.
• Performance Tuning: Optimize dashboards for speed and efficiency, ensuring seamless performance under heavy data loads.
• Production Support: Provide immediate support for production issues. As a high-pressure environment, you must be able to troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies under tight deadlines.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Translate business requirements from operational managers into technical specifications and actionable visualizations.
• Best Practices: Implement data governance, security protocols, and version control within the BI frameworks.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Required Technical Skills

• QlikSense (Expert): Deep experience with Qlik Sense Enterprise, including data modeling, set analysis, section access, and publishing.
• Power BI (Expert): Advanced proficiency in Power Query, DAX, and creating complex drill-through reports.
• SQL (Advanced): Ability to write complex, nested SQL queries for data extraction and manipulation (experience with PostgreSQL or MSSQL preferred).
• Data Warehousing: Solid understanding of ETL processes, star schemas, and snowflake schemas.

Soft Skills & Behavioral Traits (Critical)

Advantages (Nice to Have)

• Scripting: Basic knowledge of Python or R for data analytics.
• Logistics Experience: Familiarity with supply chain metrics (e.g., Freight, Warehousing, Route Optimization, Last-Mile Delivery) is highly beneficial but not a requirement.
• Cloud Platforms: Experience with Azure or AWS data services.
