Senior Front-End Engineer (React)

We’re working with an established consumer digital business, and they’re looking for a Senior Front-End Engineer with deep React expertise to lead the design and delivery of high-quality, scalable user interfaces.

You’ll architect front-end systems, drive technical decisions and set the standard for performance, accessibility and developer experience — leading complex features from concept to production and mentoring the engineers around you.

What you’ll do

• Lead front-end architecture decisions and champion best practice across patterns, tooling and code quality
• Design and deliver complex, scalable features, breaking large problems into maintainable, testable components
• Architect client/server state management (React Query, Zustand or similar) and collaborate on API design
• Set testing standards (unit, integration, end-to-end) and strengthen CI/CD, code review and observability
• Lead performance optimisation across rendering, bundle size and Core Web Vitals, and uphold WCAG AA accessibility
• Build and evolve a shared design system (Storybook), and mentor intermediate and junior engineers

What you’ll bring

• 6–8 years’ front-end experience, with several years in React
• Strong JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript, and deep knowledge of React internals and performance
• Proven front-end architecture capability
• Solid CSS and responsive design, and modern frameworks (Next.js or Vite)
• Strong testing experience (Jest, React Testing Library, end-to-end), and API integration and design
• Solid accessibility (WCAG AA) and internationalisation understanding

Advantageous

• Owning a Storybook-based design system, mentoring and shaping team standards
• Feature-flag platforms and progressive rollout, and high-volume consumer environments

In office with flexitime, based in Cape Town or Johannesburg.
