Software Engineer in Test

The Role

As a Test Automation Engineer (SDET) Lead, you’ll play a key role throughout the development lifecycle within the Product Engineering teams, ensuring the quality and reliability of our microservice and micro frontend applications.

You’ll work closely with developer/engineers in a cross-functional team, contributing to the design and implementation of automated testing strategies that supports the Product and various client configurations in our cloud-native architecture in Azure.

You’ll be responsible for building robust test automation frameworks, integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines, and driving performance, reliability, and scalability through modern tools and practices. You will conduct automated (and/or manual tests where necessary) to ensure the software created is fit for purpose.

Responsibilities

• Strategy & Planning: Creating Test Automation scripts, Approach, Plan, and Strategy. Define test scenarios, create test cases and document test results.
• Framework Design: Design and implement test automation frameworks for microservices and micro frontends. Designing, developing and supporting frameworks for our test infrastructure.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with developers, product owners, and analysts to create test designs, define test strategies and scenarios. Work as part of cross functional, passionate agile project teams to ensure quality is driven into the heart of the development process.
• Execution: Develop and maintain automated tests for REST APIs, UI components, and backend services. Write and maintain automated tests for Angular applications, ensuring component and integration-level coverage.
• Integration: Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
• Tools: Use Playwright for end-to-end UI testing and K6 for performance and load testing. Create scalable test environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Defect Management: Document and triage defects, ensuring timely resolution and release readiness. Proactively bringing issues and problems to the attention of the team.
• Mentorship: Mentor team members on automation best practices and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of test cases, results, and automation strategies. Be meticulous about documentation and maintaining a robust log of all test cases and test results.

What we are looking for

• Experience: Minimum 4 years of formal testing experience in structured environments.
• Programming: Strong programming skills in Java (preferably with Spring Boot). ●
• Architecture: Experience testing microservices and micro frontends in cloud-native environments. Strong grasp of SDLC, STLC, and DevOps principles.
• Frontend Testing: Experience writing automated tests for Angular applications using tools like Playwright or Cypress. Familiarity with Angular testing and tooling.
• Tools: Hands-on experience with Playwright, K6, JMeter and other modern testing tools. Familiarity with NX Monorepo tooling (nice to have).
• API: Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, HTTP, and JSON.
• Contract Testing: Experience with contract testing (e.g., Pact) and mocking strategies. Strong knowledge of mocking test dependencies.
• DevOps/Cloud: Experience with containerisation and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes. Proven ability to configure and support CI/CD pipelines. Experience with cloud platforms—preferably Azure.
• Methodology: Understanding of TDD, BDD, and test automation design patterns.
• AI: AI-native or AI-curious engineers who are excited about the opportunity to leverage AI to accelerate test creation, enhance automated testing coverage, and collaborate with colleagues on an AI-enhanced quality assurance future.
