Position Summary

Velocity Trade is seeking a motivated and technically curious Junior Systems Engineer to join our infrastructure team.

This role is ideal for someone who has built a solid foundation in IT infrastructure and is looking to develop a career in Linux systems administration, automation, cloud technologies, and Infrastructure as Code.

You will work alongside experienced engineers supporting the infrastructure that powers our global trading platforms, gaining exposure to enterprise technologies and modern infrastructure practices.

This is a hands-on learning opportunity for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, learning new technologies, and building a career in infrastructure engineering.

Key ResponsibilitiesInfrastructure Support

• Assist with the deployment, maintenance, and support of Linux and Windows infrastructure.
• Monitor system health and help troubleshoot infrastructure issues.
• Participate in routine operational and maintenance activities.

Linux Systems Administration

• Support Linux-based systems and services.
• Assist with server configuration, patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Learn best practices for system administration and performance management.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

• Assist senior engineers with infrastructure automation projects.
• Learn and contribute to Infrastructure as Code initiatives using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Support efforts to improve operational efficiency through automation.

Cloud & Platform Operations

• Gain exposure to AWS and Azure cloud environments.
• Assist with cloud administration and operational tasks.
• Learn modern infrastructure and platform engineering practices.

Monitoring & Incident Response

• Monitor infrastructure and application health.
• Assist with investigating alerts and incidents.
• Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities.

Security & Compliance

• Support infrastructure security initiatives and operational controls.
• Assist with patch management and vulnerability remediation activities.
• Learn security best practices within a regulated financial services environment.

Documentation & Team Collaboration

• Maintain operational documentation and runbooks.
• Work closely with senior engineers and service providers.
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn and continuously improve technical skills.

Key Requirements

✅ 1-3 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, infrastructure support, or a related technical role

✅ Basic Linux administration experience and a strong desire to develop Linux engineering skills

✅ Comfortable working with command-line tools and troubleshooting technical issues

✅ Basic understanding of networking concepts including DNS, IP addressing, routing, VPNs, and firewalls

✅ Exposure to scripting or automation using Bash, Python, or PowerShell

✅ Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills

✅ Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team

✅ A genuine interest in infrastructure, cloud technologies, automation, and continuous learning

Nice to Have

➕ Exposure to Linux server administration

➕ Exposure to AWS or Azure

➕ Familiarity with VMware or other virtualisation platforms

➕ Exposure to automation tools such as Ansible

➕ Exposure to Infrastructure as Code concepts or Terraform

➕ Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Zabbix, ELK, or Prometheus

➕ Exposure to Git or version control systems

➕ Relevant certifications such as Linux+, RHCSA, AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals, or similar

➕ Personal projects, home labs, GitHub repositories, or demonstrable passion for technology

➕ Familiarity with SAN storage solutions (Lenovo, Pure Storage, or similar)

➕ Experience designing or operating High Availability (HA) systems and architectures
