This full-time, exempt role is based in Concord, CA (fully onsite) and includes travel to various worksites and events, Monday–Friday during business hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the communications and marketing strategy with continuous improvement to enhance SHELTER, Inc.’s reputation and thought leadership.
• Create and manage the annual communications calendar and budget.
• Collaborate with program teams and the Director of Development to develop compelling content for external publications, social media, the web, and print materials, including participant success stories.
• Source, write, produce, and distribute engaging content using written, multimedia, and video storytelling techniques.
• Oversee print and electronic collateral such as appeals, newsletters, annual impact reports, event materials, and digital communications, while managing the overall brand image.
• Actively cultivate and manage media relationships to secure coverage for programs, special events, and press announcements.
• Serve as the lead point of contact for media interactions to promote the agency.
• Manage website content and implement SEO/SEM strategies.
• Coordinate with vendors for outsourced services such as printing, web management, and specialized professional services.
• Provide cross-training support within the Development Team and assist with donor engagement, volunteer coordination, events, and data management.
• Offer training and guidance to team members to ensure reciprocal backup in primary responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in communication functions within the non-profit or media sector.
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, Constant Contact, as well as web and advertising analytics.
• Familiarity with basic graphic design, photography, and video production skills.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills coupled with confident communication and presentation abilities.
• Understanding of best practices for digital and social media content creation.
• Flexibility to work weekends when needed.
