The Healthcare Coding Auditor plays a vital role in enhancing coding practices through strategic needs analysis and effective training programs. This position oversees the development and implementation of educational initiatives aimed at both our internal Medical Coders and contracted providers, ensures coding practices adhere to the latest standards, and serves as a pivotal resource for our coding leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Quality Review: Conducts thorough audits of inpatient and outpatient healthcare accounts, performing detailed annual performance assessments to ensure compliance and high-quality coding practices.
• Education: Identifies coding staff’s educational needs and develops tailored programs or researches resources to fulfill those requirements, including creating presentations and training materials.
• Coding Support: Assists with coding edits, denials, and appeals management, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of issues as they arise.
• Training: Facilitates training for new and existing coding staff, developing comprehensive training materials and coding aids to promote ongoing education and improvement.
• Coordination: Organizes professional seminars and educational resources, maintaining up-to-date attendance records for all coding-related training sessions.
• Resource Management: Acts as a subject matter expert, providing accurate and current information regarding professional coding standards and serving as a resource for all staff.
• Reporting: Produces detailed reports on audit findings for management and individual coders, ensuring timely communication of compliance-related risks and supporting documentation as needed.

Desired Experience

• 5+ years of coding experience.
• 3+ years of auditing experience.
• Proficient in multiple EMR systems, coding encoders, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations; ability to maintain patient confidentiality is essential.
• Proven track record of achieving quality and productivity benchmarks.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Familiarity with medical/surgical terminology.
• Willingness to travel to client sites as necessary, up to 40% of the time.
• Open to adopting innovative solutions, including AI, to streamline processes and enhance patient and client experiences.
• This role allows for remote work, but candidates must be prepared to travel to client sites or corporate offices as needed.

Minimum Education

• Associate’s Degree or Equivalent Experience

Required Certifications

Candidates must possess at least one current professional certification (e.g., CPC, CPMA, or CCS preferred):

• CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
