And Duties
Under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Chief Fiscal Officer (CFO) provides guidance and direction concerning the delivery of fiscal services of the Department of Industrial Relations.
The CFO, through the Accounting and Budget officers, directs the work of professional and technical staff performing the following: budget analysis and preparation; preparation, analysis, and control of accounting records; all cash management activities and expenditure forecasting; and preparation of responses to federal audit deferrals and exceptions.
The CFO provides general direction to the Budget Office in preparing, reviewing, analyzing, and making recommendations regarding the department's budget.
The CFO also serves as the primary point of contact on sensitive or complex inquiries regarding fiscal and program information from the Legislature, the Legislative Analyst's Office, the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, the State Controller's Office, and the Department of Finance.
Finally, the CFO provides advice and guidance to the Director, the Chief Deputy Director, the COO and the executive management team, and program managers on fiscal implications of program proposals and other issues impacting the Department.

The incumbent works in an air conditioned, office building with natural and artificial lighting. In addition, the incumbent works in an enclosed private office in close proximity to others.
Special Requirements
In addition to the Standard State Application (STD 678), all interested applicants are required to submit a Statement of Qualification (SOQ) Within each response, include specific information as to how your professional experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities meet the qualifications and desirable qualifications of this position.
Please limit your SOQ to a maximum of 3 pages, single spaced, 10 point Arial font. In the top right corner include page number, name and JC# on each SOQ page. The SOQ must be numbered in the same order as the Statement of Qualification and should address each question. Each response should be in their own paragraph(s). Applicants who do not follow these requirements may be disqualified from the examination.
Applicants who do not provide responses to the five specific questions below will be disqualified. Cover letters and resumes do not take the place of the SOQ. Please respond to the following quesions in your SOQ with specific information in each of your responses.
Applicants will also be evaluated on how clearly and concisely their qualifications were presented throughout the SOQ (including grammar, spelling and punctuation.)
