General Summary: Senior leadership position providing strategic financial leadership and direct management of the organization’s finance, accounting, and payroll functions.
The Finance Director is a senior management position and a key member of Asolo Rep’s leadership team. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Finance Director partners with senior leadership in strategic decision making and operations, and provides leadership for all financial planning, accounting, reporting, and internal controls for the organization.
Beyond day-to-day financial management, the Finance Director serves as a strategic advisor to the Managing Director and board on the long-range financial health and sustainability of the institution – helping shape how the organization plans, invests, and grows in service of its artistic and community mission.

Strategic Financial Leadership
Develops multi-year financial plans and scenario models to inform season planning, capital projects, endowment strategy, and other long-range strategic initiatives.
Leads the annual budgeting process in partnership with the Managing Director and department heads. Monitors budget-to-actual performance throughout the year and prepare forecasts and cash flow projections.
Serves as a key member of the senior management team, contributing a financial perspective to institutional strategy, season planning, capital projects, and organizational decision making.
Financial Operations & Accounting
Oversees all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close. Prepares timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP and not-for-profit fund accounting standards.
Maintains internal controls and fiscal policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
Partners with the Development department on reconciliation of contributed revenue, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of gifts, grants, and pledges across systems.
Maintains the organization’s business insurance policies (general liability, directors and officers, volunteer coverage, and workers’ compensation), including claims handling and liaison with providers.
Reporting, Audit & Compliance
Prepares and presents monthly financial reports to the Managing Director, board, and Finance Committee.
Manages the annual independent audit and preparation of the Form 990. Serves as primary liaison to auditors, banks, and investment managers.
Oversees financial tracking and reporting for grants, restricted funds, and the endowment.
Governance & Team Leadership
Attends monthly board, finance and executive committee, strategic planning, department heads, and operations committee meetings. Serves as staff liaison for Finance Task Force, Facility Task Force, Endowment Campaign Task Force and any other finance-oriented task force appointed by the board.
Supervises, mentors, and develops the Business Office team (Staff Accountant and Business Associate), fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and service across the organization.
Works to support the vigorous operation, mission and goals of the institution with leadership and collegial working relationships.
Highly organized, self-motivated and has professional oral and written communications skills; ability to maintain good rapport with management and staff in other departments such as marketing, development etc.
Must be detail oriented and able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, not-for-profit fund accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Strong analytical and financial modeling skills; ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights for non-financial stakeholders, including the board.
Proven leadership and staff development skills; high level of integrity, sound judgment, and discretion in handling confidential information.
High level of computer skills including advanced Excel and accounting/ERP software; experience with Financial Edge and Tessitura systems a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience; CPA or MBA preferred
Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including supervisory experience; not-for-profit fund accounting experience required (Performing Arts experience preferred)
Demonstrated experience managing independent audits and presenting financial information to boards, finance committees, or senior leadership
