Want to make an impact? We offer thatDue to continued growth, we are hiring a Power BI Consultant/Analyst to join our public sector client and support the development, enhancement, and administration of Power BI reporting solutions, enabling self-service analytics across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- You will work closely with stakeholders across multiple business units to support and empower staff to develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Self-Service Enablement & User Support: Provide hands-on support to staff developing Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Guide users on best practices for self-service analytics, including data modelling and report design.
- Assist with DAX measures, calculated columns, and Power Query.
- Develop reusable templates, datasets, and standardised approaches.
- Produce user guidance and documentation where required.
- Dashboard Development & Enhancement:
- Support dashboard development, particularly for complex or cross-functional requirements.
- Review and optimise user-developed reports for usability, accuracy, and performance.
- Advise on data visualisation, layout, and storytelling.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage with business users to understand reporting and self-service requirements.
- Collaborate with IT and data teams, translating business needs into solutions.
- Provide clear, timely communication on progress, issues, and best practices.
- Data Integration & API Connectivity: Assist with the design, implementation, and support of data connections from multiple sources (e.g. databases, flat files, APIs). Enable users to access approved data sources for self-service reporting.
- Troubleshoot data refresh and connectivity issues.
- Governance & Standards: Promote Power BI development standards and best practices.
- Advise on naming conventions, documentation standards, and version control.
- Ensure consistency across departmental units.
- Performance Optimisation: Identify and resolve performance issues in reports and datasets.
- Optimise data models, query efficiency, and report load times.
- Monitor usage and recommend improvements to support scalable self-service adoption.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience working in a fully English-speaking professional environment Degree (level 8 QQI) in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer science, or relevant related discipline Experience publishing Power BI dashboards for organisational and public use Experience in the administration of Power BI dashboards regarding access to the dashboard and ensuring data refresh is up to date Experience in the use of varied data sources including Database/Data Warehouse, Atlassian Jira, external websites Experience in the use of APIs to access data from a variety of sources including Database/Data Warehouse, Atlassian Jira, external websites Experience providing accurate, congruent and reliable data, ensure information is easily available to users for direct consumption or integration with other systems Ability to review available data, search and identify patterns and new insights Experience writing documentation including functional/technical specification, user guides or supporting documentation required by the business owner Experience of end-to-end project completion, designing, testing, building, and demonstrating best-in-class models, dashboards and visualisations using Power BI Experience of working within a Public Service Body to develop insights for data driven policy development.
