Environmental Engineer 9-P11

The district engineer is responsible for the regulatory oversight of community public water supplies as defined by the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act (Act 399, PA 1976, as amended). The district engineer makes decisions concerning engineering concepts, design, operation, and maintenance of community public water supplies, focusing on public health and the administration of the Act. The district engineer serves as the primary information source for community water supplies and reviews applications for permits before issuance by the Senior Licensed Engineer.

The senior district engineer oversees community public water supplies within a specified geographic area, requiring independent decision-making concerning engineering concepts, design, operation, and maintenance, with a focus on public health and compliance with the Act. This position requires a Licensed Professional Engineer license and involves reviewing, approving, and issuing construction permits for water supply facilities.

The district engineer is the primary contact for community water supplies to fulfill these responsibilities.

The work location is the Grand Rapids District Office, with potential for a hybrid work schedule (remote and in-person). Remote work must be within Michigan, with expenses not reimbursed. Employees must maintain a suitable workspace with secure internet access. Details about work location and schedule will be discussed during the interview.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Experience

• Environmental Engineer 9: No specific experience required.
• Environmental Engineer 10: One year of professional experience in land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality, equivalent to an Environmental Engineer 9.
• Environmental Engineer P11: Two years of experience, including one year at the level of Environmental Engineer 10.
• Environmental Engineer Licensed 12: Three years of experience, including one year at the level of Environmental Engineer P11.
