Senior Planning Engineer; Telecomm - Oahu

Position Overview

Position: Senior Planning Engineer (Telecomm) - Oahu at Hawaiianel. This role is pivotal in planning and engineering analyses, budgeting, and asset management to enhance the telecommunications infrastructure of Hawaiian Electric Companies. It requires collaboration across operating companies and strategic decision-making, along with direct communication with executives.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate across counties and guide strategic telecommunications planning to support all operating companies.
• Lead team members in planning, designing, developing, and revising the telecommunications strategy and master plan.
• Create high-level Telecom Single Lines, prepare RFPs for planning consulting services, evaluate proposals, and review design studies.
• Provide technical and planning support on initiatives such as Grid Modernization, Integrated Grid Planning, renewable energy goals, interconnection requirements, and wildfire initiatives.
• Develop or improve guidelines, procedures, and standards for telecommunications projects, advising on planning criteria and operating requirements.
• Manage planning projects: facilitate meetings, assign tasks, oversee project work, conduct field inspections, and participate in emergency response activities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a related discipline, a Master of Science in a technical field related to telecommunications, or twelve years of relevant experience in communications infrastructure design and planning.
• Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Hawaii is desired.
• Extensive knowledge of telecommunications engineering design, project management, program management, contract administration, and standards development.
• In-depth understanding of telecommunications planning principles, preferably with a concentration in electric utility systems.
