Peiffer Wolf Carr Kane Conway & Wise LLP is a nationally recognized plaintiff-side class action and mass tort litigation law firm. We represent individuals harmed by corporate fraud and misconduct. Our consumer practice litigates cases in state and federal courts nationwide, commonly brought under federal statutes such as ERISA and the Military Lending Act, as well as a variety of state consumer protection statutes.

In the class action group, our attorneys are experienced class action practitioners who litigate cutting-edge legal cases.

The Job

This position seeks a class action litigator with four to seven years of experience for our plaintiff-side consumer class action practice. We will consider applicants with 2 years of dedicated class action experience who do not otherwise meet the 4 years requested. We are seeking a strong writer who is ready to embrace the challenges of collaboratively managing a large class action docket.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned associate ready for first-chair work and willing to grow with the team.

The Day-to-Day

• Develop case strategy from pre-suit investigation through certification and trial.
• Write the briefs that carry the case: oppositions to motions to dismiss and motions to compel arbitration, Rule 23 motions, and appeals.
• Run expansive written and document discovery against AM Law 50 defense teams.
• Take and defend depositions of party witnesses, corporate representatives, and experts.
• Argue motions in federal and state courts around the country.
• Vet new cases and help decide what cases fit the Firm’s mission.

Who You Are

• Four to seven years of litigation experience with substantial class action work. We prefer plaintiff-side experience, but will happily consider defense lawyers looking to switch sides.
• You are a strong writer; your briefs win novel issues and make new law. We will ask for a writing sample and read it closely.
• You have taken and defended depositions and argued motions in court.
• You hold a J.D. with a strong academic record and an active bar membership in good standing.

Bonus Points

• A federal clerkship.
• Consumer protection / financial services experience. Think ERISA, MLA, TCPA, state UDAP statutes, etc.
• Appellate briefing or argument.

Location

The job is based in our New Orleans office. For the right candidate, we will consider hybrid work from anywhere in the country, with regular trips to New Orleans to work with the team here.
