The opportunity

This position reports to the Dean/Director of both the Faculty of Music and School of Art, and provides overall guidance and strategic direction on all Finance, Administrative and Facilities matters for both Units.

In this capacity, the position independently coordinates and directs many diverse funding areas in order to project financial commitments for the Faculty/School budgets, facilitates contract administration, supervises completion of special projects as well as developing financial objectives in consultation with the Dean/Director.

This position plays an integral role in the development of the Strategic Resource Plan, providing guidance to the Dean/Director. The position is responsible for the overall operations of the facilities of both Units and for all SoA and DFoM facilities, manages all aspects from space and office assignment to acting as liaison on construction and renovation projects and addressing maintenance and security issues.

The incumbent is responsible for the overall financial oversight and administration of support staff in the School of Art, and the Faculty of Music, and provides oversight and guidance on academic staff (UMFA) HR processes for both units, and also provides important advisory service and administrative/financial expertise to different areas within both faculties.

This position provides oversight and guidance to Associate Deans/Directors in both faculties to ensure compliance on all Finance and Facility issues. This position serves as the primary liaison with University Administration on all Financial and Facility issues for both faculties.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for

• Accounting designation (CPA or Legacy CA, CMA or CGA) required
• Undergraduate degree in a related discipline is required (Major in Accounting preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years directly related experience in a senior financial role is required.
• High level of knowledge in the area of financial management is required.
• Significant experience in developing and maintaining budgets is required.
• Experience in Facilities Management preferred.
• Previous experience in human resources management and demonstrated ability to deal sensitively with many personnel issues is required.
• Solid understanding of University procedures and policies and University financial and human resources systems is required.
• Experience working in the fine or performing arts sector is an asset
• Exceptional financial accounting, critical thinking and strategic thinking skills are essential.
• Exceptional leadership, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, management and change management skills are essential.
• Must be able to work effectively in a team environment, deal with all levels of staff, administration and government.
• Must be able to provide financial management structure advice.
• An ability to handle stress well is essential.
• A high level of integrity, initiative and strategic planning is required.
• Sound decision making and problem resolution skills is required.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
