About this Opportunity
As stewards of the campus, Facilities Management (FMGT) fosters and enriches an inviting and functional environment that welcomes and supports all who come here. Facilities Management’s customers include Deans, departments, faculty, staff and students.
The department’s branches work together as a team to ensure a high standard of customer service delivery, as well as the provision of capital projects, and effective, efficient and safe performance for the operation and maintenance of campus buildings.
A willingness and ability to work any recognized shift, including weekends, is expected. From time to time, hours of work may be adjusted to suit operational needs.
The opportunity for continuing status may be available in the future.
The Plumber performs journeyperson-level work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of water, sewer, gas, and related systems and fixtures throughout university buildings and grounds. This includes work on domestic and industrial piping, drainage systems, gas lines, laboratory systems, and specialty fixtures.
The role requires skill in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic campus environment.
Must have completed apprenticeship and hold current Trades Qualification. Journeyman (M/F) level skills and demonstrated proficiency in performing plumbing trades tasks, in particular, natural gas installation. Good working knowledge of local plumbing codes and standards.
Sufficient strength, stamina and coordination to perform a variety of routine heavy manual and machine operation tasks under all weather conditions. Valid B.C. driver's license required to drive a light truck in performance of above duties.
Work is performed in mechanical rooms, crawlspaces, roofs, laboratories, and both indoor and outdoor environments. Exposure to noise, heat, moisture, confined spaces, chemical residues, and sewage may occur. Regular lifting, climbing, and bending are required. PPE must be worn where appropriate. May be called upon to respond to urgent issues after hours or on weekends.
