Role Overview
This role leads Hengtong's sales growth in the Canadian market, with a primary focus on the power and telecommunications industries — covering power utilities, transmission & distribution (T&D) contractors, telecom operators, ISPs, and cable distributors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the regional sales strategy for Canada, achieving annual revenue and margin targets across power cable (LV/MV/HV) and optical fiber & cable product lines;
- Identify, develop, and maintain key accounts in the power and telecom sectors, including utilities, telecom operators, ISPs, EPC contractors, and cable distributors;
- Track utility grid expansion, renewable energy, broadband/FTTH, and 5G infrastructure projects in Canada; build and manage the project-based sales pipeline;
- Lead opportunity qualification, bidding, contract negotiation, and order fulfillment follow-up;
- Monitor Canadian market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory/certification requirements for the power and telecom cable industry (e.g., CSA, UL), and provide regular market intelligence reports to headquarters;
- Coordinate with HQ technical, product, and supply chain teams to deliver pre-sales support, technical proposals, and customized cable solutions;
- Represent Hengtong at industry exhibitions and trade shows in North America's power and telecom sectors (e.g., DISTRIBUTECH, IEEE PES events) to enhance brand visibility;
- Ensure timely payment collection and manage credit risk in compliance with company policies;
- Support the setup of local channel partnerships or distribution networks in the power and telecom segments as the business scales.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Telecommunications, Business, or a related field;
- 5+ years of B2B sales experience in the power or telecommunications industry — power cable, electrical equipment, T&D products, optical cable, or telecom infrastructure strongly preferred;
- Solid understanding of the Canadian power utility and telecom markets, including key players, procurement processes, and project bidding practices;
- Proven track record of winning project-based or framework orders with utilities or telecom operators;
- Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to engage C-level stakeholders;
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); willing to travel frequently within Canada and occasionally internationally;
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work independently with HQ in a different time zone.
Preferred
- Existing customer resources or channel networks with Canadian utilities, telecom operators, or cable distributors;
- Experience with renewable energy (wind/solar), grid modernization, or broadband/FTTH projects;
- Experience working for or with Chinese multinational manufacturers;
- Mandarin Chinese proficiency is a strong plus;
- MBA or PMP certification is an asset.
