Assistant Accountant - professional services sector - excellent opportunity!

My client a fast - growing UK-based professional services and advisory firm have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join their growing team.

Reporting into the Finance Director you will provide day-to-day transactional and analytical support to the finance team, with a particular focus on month-end close activities, expense review and control, audit evidence preparation, and accounts receivable management.

Responsibilities

Month-End Close & Reporting

Support month-end close activities, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, reporting packs, and intercompany transfer pricing recharges.

Expense Management

Review and reconcile employee expenses and corporate cards, ensuring policy compliance, accurate coding, VAT treatment, and resolution of exceptions identified through AI-assisted reviews.

Audit & Controls

Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation, respond to auditor requests, and assist in maintaining financial controls and process documentation.

Accounts Receivable

Support credit control, cash allocation, debtor management, billing query resolution, and cash flow forecasting.

General

Leverage AI-enabled finance tools to improve efficiency and accuracy, contribute to process improvements, and provide ad hoc support and analysis for senior finance leadership.

About you

A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant qualification/ work experience)

2-3 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role, ideally including exposure to month-end close, expense processing, or AR/credit control

Comfortable and proactive in using AI tools and modern finance systems to support day-to-day work (e.g. automating reconciliations, using AI for data review/anomaly detection, drafting reporting commentary)

Right to work in the UK (this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship)

Strong Excel skills and general comfort learning new finance/ERP and EPM systems

High attention to detail and a methodical approach to reconciliations and documentation

Good communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders (including senior finance team members) and external auditors.
