An exciting opportunity exists for an Accountant to join the Operational Accounting & Reporting team within the NSW Department of Education's Finance division. In this role, you will deliver financial accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting services that support informed decision-making while ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, NSW Treasury requirements and departmental policies.

You are an experienced accounting professional with strong expertise in financial analysis, operational accounting, forecasting and financial reporting within a large and complex organisation. You are committed to delivering accurate, timely and high-quality financial information that supports effective decision-making, strong financial governance and compliance with NSW Government requirements.
You build productive relationships with stakeholders, enjoy solving complex financial issues, and have a continuous improvement mindset that enables you to strengthen financial processes, controls and reporting outcomes.
You Will BringDemonstrated experience in financial accounting, analysis and reporting within a large and complex organisation. Strong knowledge of financial accounting practices, including general ledger management, balance sheet reconciliations, journal processing, month-end and year-end activities, and statutory reporting.
Experience preparing financial information to support NSW Treasury reporting, including actuals, forecasting and statutory reporting. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify financial risks, investigate variances and provide practical recommendations.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across Finance, Shared Services, business areas and NSW Treasury. A continuous improvement mindset, with experience identifying opportunities to strengthen financial governance, controls and reporting processes.
Key Knowledge And ExperienceSubstantial experience in applying Australian accounting standards and NSW Treasury accounting and reporting policies and requirements Substantial experience with financial accounting and reporting risk identification and implementation of fit for purpose financial governance, processes and controls.
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people. Essential
Degree in accounting or finance discipline and eligibility for membership of a recognised professional association or demonstrated relevant and successful workplace experience. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
