Job Summary
GBU Life is seeking an experienced IT Business Systems Analyst to join our Technology team and support the continued growth, innovation, and modernization of our business systems and technology solutions.
This role serves as a key partner between business teams, technology resources, software developers, quality assurance teams, project managers, and external vendors to analyze business needs and deliver effective technology solutions that support GBU’s strategic objectives.
The IT Business Systems Analyst is responsible for understanding business processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, gathering and documenting requirements, and translating business needs into functional and technical solutions.
This position plays an important role throughout the technology delivery lifecycle, from initial discovery and requirements gathering through development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with both business and technical expertise who can effectively collaborate with stakeholders across the organization. This individual will have experience analyzing complex business processes, creating detailed documentation, supporting application development, and ensuring delivered solutions meet business requirements and provide value to end users.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Requirements Management
- Partner with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, and technology teams to understand business objectives, operational needs, and opportunities for improvement.
- Gather, analyze, validate, and document business requirements using established requirements gathering processes and methodologies.
- Conduct business needs assessments to identify system enhancements, process improvements, and opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications and technical documentation for development teams.
- Analyze existing business processes and workflows to identify gaps, risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation or optimization.
- Develop process diagrams, workflow documentation, user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria to support solution delivery.
- Ensure requirements are complete, accurate, clearly communicated, and aligned with business goals.
- Technology Partnership and Solution Delivery: Serve as a liaison between internal business teams, software developers, quality assurance teams, service owners, and external technology partners.
- Collaborate with development teams to design, build, and implement technology solutions that meet business requirements.
- Participate in application design discussions, solution architecture reviews, and technical planning activities.
- Support the development of small to largescale solutions that improve business operations and user experiences.
- Create and maintain business requirement documents, functional specifications, technical design documents, statements of work, project plans, and other supporting documentation.
- Assist with the design, development, testing, debugging, maintenance, and documentation of software systems, applications, integrations, and utilities.
- Provide business perspective and guidance throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: Partner with Quality Assurance teams and business users to develop and execute effective testing strategies.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing activities to validate system functionality and ensure solutions meet business expectations.
- Identify, document, and troubleshoot system issues, defects, and enhancements.
- Assist development teams with issue resolution by clarifying requirements and validating solutions.
- Ensure delivered technology solutions meet quality standards and provide a positive user experience.
- Project Delivery and Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with Project Management teams to define project scope, deliverables, dependencies, timelines, and resource needs.
- Develop project estimates and provide input into delivery schedules and implementation plans.
- Maintain ownership of assigned deliverables and support successful completion of project milestones.
- Manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- Promote Agile methodologies, continuous improvement practices, and collaborative approaches to technology delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and customer experiences through technology solutions.
- Support change management activities, including development of user documentation, training materials, and communication resources.

Responsibilities
- Design, test, debug, maintain, and document software system components and related utilities.
- Collaborate on application requirements, design standards, integration needs, and system architecture.
- Utilize SQL to analyze data, validate requirements, troubleshoot issues, and create complex database queries.
- Support understanding and testing of system integrations, APIs, databases, and data exchanges.
- Utilize tools and technologies such as Postman or SOAP UI to support web service testing.
- Develop documentation that clearly communicates technical concepts and system functionality to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Properly Adheres to Company Risk Principles: Adhering to and supporting GBU’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Understanding and complying with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures; completing all required training; executing and monitoring controls effectively (as applicable); appropriately identifying, assessing, escalating and remediating risks, potential issues and control failures (as applicable); and reporting compliance or regulatory concerns to management.
- Understanding and conducting oneself in accordance with the Employee Handbook and preserving GBU’s brand and reputation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in business analysis, requirements gathering, systems analysis, or related technology roles.
- Experience in creating business requirements documents, functional specifications, and system documentation.
- Experience developing and interpreting process diagrams and workflow documentation.
- Strong understanding of software development, lifecycle methodologies and technology delivery processes.
- Experience coordinating application testing and partnering with Quality Assurance teams.
- Experience writing SQL queries and analyzing data to support business and technology needs.
- Strong business and technical writing skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with business partners, technical teams, and stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problemsolving, and decisionmaking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Experience working within the insurance, financial services, or regulated industry, preferred.
- Knowledge of life insurance and annuity business processes, systems, and operational workflows, preferred.
- Experience with insurance technology platforms and policy administration systems, preferred.
- Familiarity with ACORD standards and insurance industry data requirements, preferred.
- Experience working with integrations, APIs, XML, and JSON, preferred.
- Experience with Agile project methodologies and delivery practices, preferred.
- Experience supporting user experience improvements and digital transformation initiatives, preferred.
