Senior Financial Analyst

LHH is partnering with an innovative biotechnology company in South San Francisco to identify a Senior Financial Analyst for a contract engagement. This role will support critical financial planning, reporting, and operational analysis initiatives while partnering with Finance, Accounting, R&D, Clinical, and Business Operations teams.

The ideal candidate will bring strong financial analysis experience, advanced modeling skills, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights that support business decisions in a fast-paced biotech environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
• Perform detailed variance analysis on operating expenses, headcount, and departmental budgets
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities across multiple functional areas
• Partner with R&D, Clinical Operations, G&A, and business leaders to monitor spending and provide financial insights
• Analyze financial performance and identify key drivers impacting business results
• Develop and maintain financial models to support forecasting, resource planning, and strategic initiatives
• Assist with month-end and quarter-end reporting processes
• Create ad hoc analyses and executive-level reporting to support decision-making
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting efficiency, and data accuracy

Key Areas of Focus

• R&D and Clinical trial spend analysis
• Headcount planning and personnel expense reporting
• Budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual variance analysis
• Operating expense management and departmental reporting
• Financial modeling, scenario planning, and business performance analysis

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in financial analysis, corporate finance, FP&A, public accounting, or related finance roles
• Prior experience supporting a biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceutical, or healthcare organization preferred
• Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookup functions, financial modeling, and large-volume data analysis
• Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
• Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial statement analysis
• Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
