A hands-on HR leadership role driving daily operational excellence on a major infrastructure project.

We are seeking an experienced Project Human Resources Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day HR operations on a large-scale, complex infrastructure programme. This is a pivotal leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, highly operational environment and enjoys being close to the action.

About the Role

This is not a purely strategic role - you will be deeply embedded in the project, leading and delivering the full HR function on the ground. Managing a team of 4 direct reports, you will ensure seamless delivery of all HR services while working closely with frontline leaders, project managers, and a diverse, international workforce.

The role will initially be based in Auckland CBD, transitioning to a site north of Auckland as the project progresses.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and actively deliver day-to-day HR operations across a large project workforce
• Provide practical, real-time HR support to leaders and site teams
• Manage complex employee relations and industrial relations issues hands-on
• Oversee high-volume recruitment, onboarding, and workforce mobilisation
• Ensure consistent application of HR policies, processes, and compliance requirements
• Support workforce planning and resourcing in a dynamic, changing environment
• Drive engagement, performance management, and workforce productivity
• Lead, coach, and support a small HR team to deliver high-quality operational outcomes

Required Skills

• You are an experienced HR leader who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves and working closely with operational teams in complex environments.
• You will bring:
• Strong experience in operational HR roles within large, complex organisations or projects
• Experience supporting construction, infrastructure, engineering, or similar project environments
• Proven ability to manage high-volume, fast-paced HR activity
• Experience working with international and highly diverse teams
• Sound knowledge of NZ employment law and industrial relations
• A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with excellent problem-solving skills
• Confidence working directly with frontline leaders and managing competing priorities
