HR Specialist – Manufacturing (Unionized)

Company Overview

Our client is a well‑established manufacturing company in the area operating a unionized facility of approximately 100 employees. The organization values safety, quality, and strong employee relationships. They are seeking an HR Specialist to support day‑to‑day HR operations, labour relations, recruitment, and employee programs.

Position Summary

The HR Specialist provides hands‑on support across all HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, HR administration, training coordination, and union‑related processes. This role works closely with the HR Manager and plant leadership to ensure smooth HR operations and a positive employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding — Support full‑cycle hiring for hourly and salaried roles; coordinate interviews, offers, and onboarding.

Union Support — Assist with grievance tracking, discipline documentation, and collective agreement administration.

Employee Relations — Provide day‑to‑day support to employees and supervisors; help resolve workplace issues.

HR Administration — Maintain employee files, attendance records, HRIS updates, and documentation accuracy.

Training & Development — Coordinate training sessions, track certifications, and support skill‑development initiatives.

Health & Safety Support — Assist with WSIB claims, return‑to‑work documentation, and safety compliance activities.

Policy & Compliance — Ensure HR practices align with Ontario legislation and company policies.

HR Reporting — Prepare HR metrics, attendance summaries, and workforce reports for leadership.

Employee Engagement — Support communication initiatives, recognition programs, and culture‑building activities.

Qualifications

2–5 years of HR experience, ideally in manufacturing or industrial settings.

Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset.

Strong understanding of Ontario employment legislation.

Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.

CHRP designation or working toward it preferred.

Ability to work on‑site and collaborate closely with operations teams.
