Job Title: Technical Accounting Consultant (Fleet Partnership Accounting & Policy)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)

Contract: 06+ months

Project Description

Support the development of Uber's global accounting framework for fleet partnerships. This project will involve identifying and compiling fleet partnership agreements across the business, performing technical accounting assessments on individual contracts, and developing a formal accounting policy for fleet partnerships.

The contractor will work cross-functionally with accounting, business, legal, and operations teams globally to ensure contract completeness and consistent application of accounting policies. In addition to technical accounting work, the contractor will help identify opportunities to improve the process for revenue accounting to track new fleet agreements going forward.

Required Skills & Experience

-8+ years of technical accounting experience with deep expertise in ASC 606.

-Demonstrated experience reviewing complex commercial contracts and documenting accounting conclusions for highly judgmental revenue transactions.

-Proven experience authoring accounting policies for complex accounting matters, including translating technical guidance into practical operational guidance.

-Strong project management and stakeholder management skills, with experience coordinating cross-functional initiatives across multiple teams and global organizations.

-Ability to independently drive ambiguous projects from discovery through execution with minimal oversight, proactively identifying risks, gaps, and solutions.

-Strong understanding of how accounting policy connects to operational processes, controls, and business execution.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

-Big Four public accounting experience, particularly within technical accounting advisory or revenue recognition practices involving contract reviews and policy development.

-Experience leading finance transformation or process improvement initiatives, with the ability to identify opportunities to strengthen governance and improve how contracts are identified, tracked, and reviewed.

-Located in the San Francisco Bay Area with the ability to work from the SF office as needed, or available to work primarily during Pacific Time business hours.

Deliverables

-A centralized inventory of Uber's fleet partnership agreements.

-Documented accounting conclusions for each material fleet partnership, including key technical accounting judgments.

-A formal accounting policy establishing consistent accounting guidance for fleet partnerships globally.

-Recommendations to improve governance and increase visibility into future fleet partnership agreements, helping ensure accounting is engaged early and contract completeness can be maintained over time.
